... well two litre bikes in one night!!

Wow... still grinning from ear to ear!!!

Came home from work and a bloke from down the street stopped me outside my house. He's got an SV1000S and we got chatting and decided to go out for a ride.

We swapped bikes for a bit and I had my first blast on a 1000cc bike. I didn't push it too much, being someone else's bike, but came away feeling slightly dissapointed. There was a big grunty push and the bike was more comfortable. It felt a lot more stable, but heavier and harder to turn than the SV650S. Maybe a bit of time and giving it some more revs would have transformed my experience of the bike. Couldn't help thinking that the more flighty 650 was more fun somehow, especially as i can rag the tits off it without worrying.

So we carried on to the Red Lion at Avebury. Pulled up in the car park and got chatting to a bloke with a carbed Fazer 1000. Amazingly he handed the keys over, to the other guy and he went off for a spin. When the fazer owner offerd me the keys, some advice about being careful on the throttle and sent me on my way, promising that i'd like it.

SO smooth, comfortable, and effortless... without going over 5k i was building speed faster than on the SV.. I stuck it in top gear and started playing with more and more throttle, and i swear that bike took off like a rocket!!! Don't think i got past 9k rpm and 1/2 to 3/4 throttle. But it really takes off. The suspension smoothes out bumps that would have my SV pogo-ing along the road, twitching around. And coming into corners and the one roundabout i went round it just keeps leaning over!!!

I thought i'd be **** scared of a 1000cc bike, but given a bit of respect they are really awesome machines.

If you haven't you've got to try it!!!

:D Sounds great! Remember my first litre (well close) bike I tried was a '99 Blade. Scary fast thing!

Had a go on an Aprilia SL1000 Falco on sunday and that was awesome to, give it a handful and it just took off! Power wheelies in third?!?:smt103 Cacked mesen!

I have decided a full power litre bike is too much for me.

Well, compared to a Gixer 1000 or a ZX10R, the Fazer 1000 is a bit of a moped.

You should try and blag a ride on something a bit more powerful and vaguley sporting, you'll learn new swear-words every time you open the throttle. You'll end up buying Tesco Value undies too, because Calvin Kleins become a bit expensive to replace every time you soil them.

Sounds like if I lend you the keys to me gixer you'll run away and get married to it ;)

You're right though, you have to treat em with respect and take a little time to get used to them.

I think i came away with the same sentiment, I expected more from the SV1000S somehow. Maybe if i had more time with it I'd get on better. I thought i'd love a big twin engine, but the fazer's IL4 was so much smoother, and certainly not lacking torque! A completely different experience.



:D I'd love to. But that Fazer (for the moment) has defined fast and comfortable for me! Given the speed and the riding position I think that it would be an excellent tool for commuting in comfort, visiting mates a few hours away on the motorway, and still having the weekend and evening blast. I have to say that my SV is perfect for commuting, and the weekend rideout - but any time on the motorway gets uncomfortable very quickly.

Might go and see what part-ex value I can get for my bike, and get a test ride on a GSXR-750 a the weekend!!!

First thou I rode was Joe's TLR. We were pootling in traffic, and then we got to a contra flow by a hump back bridge. Off from the lights, light throttle, gave a gentle push in 2nd gear and, what's that? Front wheel about 2' in the air? Never done a wheelie before? Trousers stained? Me? Never...

Joe responded in kind by wheelying my SV where ever he could - cheeky sod!

I know its not a litre bike but i had a go on my "shared" zx9 (i bought it for my bloke with the agreement i get to use it) a few weeks ago.
Found her soo much smoother than the sv, obvs alot heavier but i felt more confident on her though!
Wont ever part with the sv but i am looking for a bigger bike so i can have big play bike for summer and my sv for winter.

Know what you mean - my mate let me have a go on his Blackbird - I was ****ting it at first thinking it was going to take off and spit me off with the slightest twist of the throttle :eek:
However up to about 5k revs it was really civilised, smooth and easy to ride - after 5k the warp core come sonline and you enter hyperspace.
I was very impressed all in all -very smooth and stable round the corners - oh and the seat was dead comfy as well :D

Of course IL4 engines are smooth and predictable. Thats why they put them in Mondeos! :?
Got to be a Twin for a motorbike in my eyes. Granted, the il4s are much more civilised to ride, but where would the fun be without locking up your rear wheels due to engine breaking now and again? :tongue:

I learned to ride big bikes when I got my Falco, end of the Autumn and I go and buy one of those things. First weekend I had it, I almost had my son off of the back through acceleration and had a problem keeping the front down, capped off by a huge wheelie along the Uxbridge road :D

The Blackbird is a peach, so "lazy" yet so fast...

I still haven't hit the limiter on 4th with the 'Blade, but I can get the back stepping out if I want to, and locking the back wheel isn't a problem either with all the torque, just drop 5th->3rd and dump the clutch....

I very rarely hit the throttle stop either, but I think I did on Sunday, in 2nd maxing it out big time :smt101

It's like anything though, you adapt with it, and as long as you don't get complacent you learn a lot in a very short time.

I can't really compare my experience, as it was a totally different bike, being a tripple and a beemer. tried out a new 1.2 litre, It lacked any excitement whatsoever, yes it got to 100 very quickly, but you still felt like you were doing 30mph, it was way too comfy, yes it would be good for touring, but no fun. I like something where u can actually feel that there is road under you, rather than feeling like you're gliding on a boat falling asleep.

You'd like the CBF then. Its got the ooomph of the blade engine, but the power delivery and engine braking of a twin because of how they've tuned it. Its one reason I love mine :D

Agree with your comment over the Fazer being an exaggeration when described as a moped compared to the gixxer thou. The Fazer thous engine IS the R1 engine - they really havent retuned it as much as Honda have done with the Blades engine in the CBF. I found the CBF was more than enough for me and tbh the issue Yamaha have with the new Fazer thous fuel injection, along with the fact it needed a seat lowering kit [the CBF didnt] and other mods to make it ok was one reason I didnt go for the Fazer in the end.

But Beenz hit nail on head back in his post - take time to get used to the bike and respect it. :)

Well you were disappearing in to the distance when scotts mille was on the back wheel! So there's still a fair whack of oomph in the cbf!

heehee still he did put on Visordown that I was one of the safest and smoothest female riders he's been out on the bikes with. Coming from a bike instructor, I take that as a huge compliment.

Im just slow because Im so ultra cautious of those roads - I know there are right junctions and hidden bends so Im way slower than the power rangers who blat through there. Once bitten and all that - I have learnt from the SV even though I have more ooomph and better brakes, Im learning the bike and taking it easy and being very cautious of that power thats there. :D
