Biggest Nick

Ok, first off, 'it is not big and it is not clever' and not advocating dong it :smt098 ...

... but out of interest, who holds the 'getting nicked' speed record on the .org? ... i.e. who got caught speeding at the greatest speed? :-s

Also who has got away with the fastest speeding ... anyone got away with it whilst caught at >100mph? (i.e. actually got pulled and let off, not did way over a ton but didn't get caught).

Re: Biggest Nick

I've only been caught twice and it was both times in the cage, 74 in a 50 and 77 in a 60. The last one really annoyed me as me and my mate was just speaking about it and the lights went on from an unmarked volvo. Gutted.
Atleast the cop bird was nice (well to look at anyway)

Re: Biggest Nick

Ok, my attempt for the biggest "getting away with it" - wait for it (can I get a drum roll?).....

32mph in a 30 zone. I kid you not.

Flashy blue lights, pulled over. Do you know what the speed limit is here sir? Umm, 30? And how fast were you going? Umm, 30? You were caught at 32mph sir.
Very, very nearly burst out laughing but thankfully thought better of it and did a slightly over the top & almost sarcastic "oh I'm very sorry, god what a terror of the roads I am, please don't lock me up and throw away the key, please". Got let off with a "be a bit more careful in future". :D

clocked doing 78 in a 50, the nice young officer let me off with a warning cos he said my observation and riding were excellent

dunno if he saw the irony of telling me my observational skills were good...didnt see him did i!?

140mph in a 60mph zone back in 1999. Ended up with 6 points and £150 fine.

How?....after getting a good solicitor, pleading guilty to 98mph and seeing that on the video evidence he was catching me when he was timing me making his recorded speed inaccurate...cough cough!.

Oh and dont try an out run an unmarked car....they are quicker than you think!.

Lesson learnt...oh yes. Had to wait 6 months to go to court...2 hours in the dock. Was enough to send me straight back to the track where i belong.

Oh the shame.:(

M5. Heading to Exeter from Plymouth. 1979.

Honda 500/4 Mag alloy wheels, clip ons & rear sets. 4 into 1 exhaust.

My mate was on a fairly new at the time CX500.

We were overtaking a car at 104 in a 70.

It was a plain police car.

It suddenly went 'Nee Nar, Nee Nar'.

Can't remember what my mate got but I think I got a £60 fine and a 14 day ban.

102mph on a 70mph dual carriageway for me. Not on the bike, but in a Corsa of all things. £190 fine (including costs) court appearence and 6 points and an SP30 (yes, really!) on my licence. Never been caught on the bike, touch wood. Had a few very near misses, mind. ;)

Re: Biggest Nick

96 in a 30 (though I dispute there is NO need for it to be 30, there's no schools or shops etc, and it's in a small sleepy village with clear view all along the perfectly straight road).

Bike copper standing behind a skip with a speed gun.

Got off with it completely as I argued (politely) the speed limit & could prove I was being very observant by telling him the phone number etc of another skip positioned a couple of hundred meters back (didn't say I'd been there only yesterday & remembered which company the skip belonged to - and just happened to know their number). I also told him about all the cars parked on the road, and even one of the numberplates of those cars (which is owned by a mate)

He said that because I was being so observant, consider this my lucky day, and hinted that he thought it should be a 40 zone, but he couldn't say that for some reason.

EDIT: I've also undertaken an unmarked police car doing approx 75mph in a 50zone. All he did was flash his blue lights & shout "slow down on that thing or you'll kill yourself." I nodded & waved, he carried on driving. So that doesn't really count for this thread.

As an aside, I actually found when in North Wales recently (well, all the way north of mid Wales really) that the speed limits seem a lot more realistic. I found that lots of villages on NSLs were 40 (rather than the more common and often inappropriate 30) and hence I was a lot more inclined to adhere to them.

been caught twice in the city of london pulling big wheelies and both times got away with a proper bollocking at the side of the road, however third time lucky got caught in barkingside at got 3 points and £180 in court. got caught by surrey plod at 117mph on m25 and got 3 points and £60, but then got caught by the RUC in Northern Ireland at 75mph in a 60 limit on a duel carrigeway and got £680 fine. traffic plod? hate them!!!!

As I said in my post, my personal opinion is that if there's a school in the village (even not near the road), or there are shops by the road, then 30mph should apply (and I stick to that strictly).

When there's no need to be very very cautious (as in the case above, straight road, plenty of visibility, nothing in the village but a few houses & a campsite or two), then there's no point it being 30mph.

I don't pretend for a second that I stick to all speed limits. I prefer to take a common sense approach. If road conditions mean it's not safe to go at the speed limit, I ride below the speed limit. Same applies in reverse.

Why? You admitted you were speeding or acting the lig. Can't blame the traffic police for that.

Re: Biggest Nick

Sort of got away with 120 on the motorway the other day. Overtook a car, carried on accelerating - looking in my mirrors to see blue flashing lights. Pull over and the police car just flys past - must have been on another shout! phew.

Other one was in a car. Driving home from work with my mate behind me. Rear windscreen is covered in crap so I can only see headlights. I See 2 headlights pull out to overtake behind me and think that it is my mate trying to over take me. Turned out it was a police car moving in between the two of us. Turn onto the last road before our houses (30 zone) and the car behind me starts flashing his headlights. I think it is my mate up for a race..... so I floor it! I'm apexing corners and get up to about 75 (only a litre metro!) and am just about to reach my house thinking I have won when they put their blue lights on. Got a big telling off, but somehow - maybe because they had sort of baited me into it, they didn't give me a ticket or caution or anything. Lucky escape!

So far, the award looks like it goes to SV650Racer for being 80mph over the speed limit.

... but out of interest, who holds the 'getting nicked' speed record on the .org? ... i.e. who got caught speeding at the greatest speed? :-s

Been there , done that and walked away with a Not-Guilty verdict.

In 1987 a copper tried to nick me and a mate for 'between 90 and 130mph' on Marston by-pass in Bedfordshire. I was on a borrowed GSXR750J, my mate was on his GSXR1100H. He chased us with an un-marked Audi 90 Quattro [1] that was on loan from VAG at Milton Keynes. He radioed ahead for a road block and they stopped us on Brogborough Hill just before Jct 13 of the M1.

When we went to court we pleaded Not-Guilty but told the magistrates exactly what points we did have on our licenses [2]. We did the usual stand up sit down procedures then the copper claimed during his giving of evidence that we had, and I quote "accelerated to their limits" and that he had kept a constant distance from us at all times. I used a load of documented performance and speed tests that I obtained from VAG themselves and a number of bike magazines to prove that an Audi 90 Quattro couldn't do 130 mph nor did it have anywhere near the acceleration to keep with a GSXR750 and a GSXR1100. I did at one point tell the copper that if he was seriously going to use these statements as evidence, then he was either very mistaken about ow fast we were actually travelling, or he was blatantly lying. The magistrates sided with us and let us walk.

When we were leaving the court a very red faced and angry copper approached us and told us that we couldn't be prosecuted again for the same offence, he then asked exactly how fast we were going. I told him I was flat out at 150 and my mate came past me, then I told him to Ferk Off and not try nicking me in future or I'd make him look a **** in court again - serves the b@stard right for lying in order to get a conviction.

[1] No calibrated speedo, copper alone. He said he could get the speedo
calibrated that afternoon by driving alongside another police car on the
motorway to determine how far out his speedo was. They didn't get the
chance, they wrote the Audi off 90 minutes after stopping us. I got this
info from my uncle who was Sales Director of an Audi dealership at the time, he was the one who also got me the performance details.
[2] If you go to court and plead Not-Guilty then they can not bring previous convictions to the courts notice, but we did tell the magistrates that we had 10 and 11 points on our licenses, we also told them that this is the first time we had ever pleaded Not-Guilty in court. I suppose that went in our favour too.

I can equal that, when I was 20 and very silly, I borrowed a mates FZ600 (FZR400 chassis with an XJ600 engine) and got into a race with a Renault 5 Turbo. End result is me getting pulled by a bike cop for doing 120 in a 40......

It goes to court, I stand there pooing myself, as the court convenes the Police solicitor leans over and tells me I am a very lucky man, there has been a problem with the paperwork and they are going to drop the charges!!

Got away with that one, only to get pulled doing 65 in a 30 a few months later......

I have now learnt my lesson :-)

Nah, I think mainly because I was local. The only thing I could think of to say was that I was wearing earplugs for the long motorway run and the lack of noise made me misjudge the speed, I wasn't used to them. Had the unusual benefit of being completely true. He checked my licence, found it was clean and that I was about 50 feet from home, and told me to b****r off.

Still, I couldn't have complained much if he had, considering that I'd spent the entire day over the limit, more or less.

I got done like this on the M27. was doing 98 ahem keeping a look out - saw some flashing blue in my mirrors, slowed down and moved left. Police shot by on a shout. Week later, some paperwork arrived. . 3 points and £360. Bit pricey that one. Southampton Magistrates dealt with it. Behaved myself since.

Re: Biggest Nick

Got caught doing 95 in a 60. How did I get caught? Overtaking a marked police car...:smt105

I got the biggest fright of my life last week. Out for a quick trip to B&Q in reading and it involves about 10 miles of dual carriageway / motorway. I only get 30minutes for my lunch break so onto the last 5 mile stretch and I red line it in 1st - 5th gear, about 12k in 6th and get off at my exit for work. Not sure what the top speed of a srad 600 is but I was certainly within 5mph of it.

Get off the bike at work and hear the very loud swoosh-swoosh-swoosh sound of a helicopter. Look up and there is a police helicopter hovering above 'me', a lot lower than most choppers fly at! I stand about pretending to do stuff to the bike and then slowly walk into the building and it buggers off after sitting there for 5 minutes. I was sitting at my desk just waiting for a police car to enter the car park. Scariest.moment.of.me.life.:( I completely 'whitied'.

So, so glad I didn't get caught. I would have lost literally everything.

Re: Biggest Nick

Got caught speeding home from work once.

Was driving home in my cage at about 3 in the morning on a week night, so no traffic or pedestrians to worry about. Was absolutely nailing my 1300 Astra(!) everywhere. This cop car was tucked away in a social club car park right on a roundabout so I didn't see him at all.

The video he showed me after finally catching up with me showed a blue blur and by the time they'd pulled out, I was about 150-200 metres away, they floored it and reached a speed of 96 miles an hour and they still weren't catchin me! Outside my house I slowed to find a parking spot, couldn't see one so took a right turn and pulled in, then they put on the blues!

Luckily I lived 0.24 (I kid you not, 0.25 and they could f**k me!) away from where they first saw me so they couldn't do anything (this is what he told me.)

This was all in a 30 limit *holds head in shame* though I have grown up a little since.

Also got chased by the Plymouth auto crime unit in an unmarked sierra 1.8 once (my 1300 Astra again) and reached speeds in excess of 90 on a 30. Also got away with it as I was on my own and there was 2 blokes in the sierra so I was fearfull for my safety. This was at about 10 at night (again, i've grown up since then)!
