I have just increased the SV grin factor.
 

In preparation for my Dyno run on monday, I fitted my a pipercross race filter, took the snorkel out of the air box completely and re-fitted my tank raisers. I then took the bike out for a spin to make sure it would run OK to the dyno shop.

All I can say is WOW, it has transformed how the bike runs, it is so much smoother and the power feels miles better. The induction roar is awesome as well.

Can't wait to get the dyno done now and see if it improves the bike even more.

But, on the other hand... Placebo horsepower is better than 10bhp that doesn't make the bike feel better, on the road, since all you're really trying to do is make it feel faster. I'm going to keep on saying that till everyone believes me :)

In that case job done. Now save some money and don't bother getting it dynoed cos you'll probably be disappointed with 45bhp at the wheel.

As long as you're happy with it, leave it.

The reason I am getting it dyno'ed is because I am running a race filter and race can. Just want the fuel curve smoothing out.

Tell you a true story. One of my favourite bike stories actually. I was up at YPE, the race builder I use for dyno runs, and this guy on a GSXR750 comes into the shop, absolutely furious. "I gave you my bike for dynoing and you've lost all the top end! It feels rubbish now".

YPE man goes and gets the dyno charts, and shows him that it'd gained power everywhere, and a few bhp on top, but what it had lost was the horrendous hole it had before they worked on it at about 10000rpm- it was about 15/20bhp up on the baseline at one point, since it'd been very lean.

The reason it felt rubbish after being fixed was that even though it had less power before, it had a really big step in the power as it got out of the hole- the brain feels contrasts better than absolutes, so a bike making 50bhp with a steep curve will usually feel more powerful than a bike making 60bhp with a flat curve.

I got a remap with a gas flow sensor thingy. I guess it helped that the mechanic took it our for a spin and is generally awesome. Made a massive difference!

So whats the consensus, don't get a remap.

With a Remus can on with the baffle out, pipercross race filter and snorkel removed I thought it would need a remap just to aid the fuelling.

OR AM I WRONG - please let me know and I'll save my reddies.

I also thought it to be beneficial to get any bike custom mapped because they are all different?:confused: :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused:

The main thing I noticed when desnorkelling mine (lasted all of 2 days) was that aside from the lovely noise, there was a considerable dip in power between about 5.25-6.5K revs. Which made overtaking most 'interesting' as you speed up to hit the bottom of the powerband. Yes, the bike felt a bit gruntier lower down the rev range and when the power came back on at the bottom of the powerband it felt like quite a bit more, but I believe it was primarily because of this dip that it felt good elsewhere. It felt like someone had fitted some v-tec shennanigans to the bike ;)

I can completely understand how people like this 'character' and how a flatter power curve can make things a bit more bland, even if in reality they make it more rideable/fast. As an aside, I noticed on PBs SS600 test they said that the CB600RR didn't feel the fastest (although lap times showed it was) and that the Kwak 'felt' faster (but was actually second slowest) and was the one the (very experienced) rider said he'd most like to own. I suspect, looking at the dyno graphs it's to do with the nearly perfect 45 degree line of the power curve, compared to the more kawasaki's more peaky delivery.

I also think northwind is completey correct with regard to 'feeling' of speed/power being better on the roads than really having it. Glancing down at the speedo after an upgrade to find you're going 10mph faster than you thought is never fun, particularly on approach to a roundabout/pedestrian crossing/etc. :D
