Down again(of my own free will)

No joke i'm not happy unless i'm trying to crash i think :smt078 come off a roundabout on the gas, as i went to go round a woman in a car who obviously thought she was Kimi Raikonen, apexed out of the corner so she was right over the right handside of the lane, just as i was overtaking, so i find the kerb of the central reservation sorta thing tyres scraping on that, get her straight and realise theres a second central reservation for me to run into, only this one has railings and i'm charging to it at 70, cranked over to get her outta the path hit the kerb(one of them sorta slanted ones) took off and landed otherside of lane and dropped it on the grass(because i woulda ended in a ditch if i'd tried to hold it up). Bike was on top of me, heres the good bit...... No damage to either :D S'all gravy baby. But i am going to slow down. Does this count as an off?

The gods were with me then, but they wanted to teach me a lesson  I am a lucky Mofo!

Definitely an off. Try to calm down a bit young fella.

When you get your breath back give the bike a really good going over, there may be damage you missed.

Re: Down again(of my own free will)

This is something i thought, could have buckled the wheels, either time i hit the kerbs. There is some grass on the bar ends.

If you'd come to a stop still astride your bike it wouldn't strictly be an off as you'd still be on it lol...if you come to a stop in any other position...even if you were still touching the bike then it's definitely an off! Obviously it would depend on who you were telling about your off/not off and whether you wanted them to react sympathetically or think your a kewl stunt rider type of a guy :D lol

PS. Glad you're both ok!!

If you ended up UNDER the bike, rather than ON TOP of the bike, defintely sounds like an off to me.
Thankfully you're ok and if the gods do have a lesson for you, I hope you learn it learn quickly.

First you run over yourself and fall asleep in the rain in the middle of a carpark. Having started to gain a reputation for doing silly things, you enhance it by pulling a perfectly good bike on top of yourself when you fall off.

Young man, you need to take yourself in hand and give yourself a stern talking to. 500 lines, "I must not do silly things to myself with motorcycles." unless there is a video camera present and then please share

I'll start this by saying that from the AR, I know you're a good guy & ride sensibly (or did when you were behind me anyway). However...

You can buy CHEAP armoured textiles that you can then recycle or give to a charity shop etc later. By cheap I mean £50 or under, and they'll be more beneficial than tracky bottoms.

How much are your legs worth to you? There's a thread in Photo's about always wearing your gear. Please go & look at the pictures in it.

I'm glad you're OK mate, but try not to overtake on roundabouts, car drivers always do silly things there!!!

You said there was a lesson in it, the only thing that matters now is that you learn from it instead of ignoring it.

Tracky bottoms! Why not just ride naked! #-o

Glad you're ok, but never go out in anything less than jeans. Preferably something padded.
(Or at least get some strap-on armour to put over your knees or something)

Try and assume that all of the cage drivers are out to kill you, and that might hopefully avoid too many more of these situations :p

Oh come on. Look at the admitted speed. Suitable for road conditions? No. Definitely not. Plowsie, you have only yourself to blame.

If I read that right, the car didn't do a thing wrong, just used the whole lane... Could be that I've misunderstood though.

Tracky bottoms and highish speeds? FFS Stupid just plain stupid!

You can pick up cheap textile trousers for about £30 fair enough they're not the greatest but they'll do better than tracky bottoms

In defence of Plowsie, having actually ridden with him (as opposed to merely reading about his riding), he seemed a pretty cautious rider to me.

Perhaps it wasn't his usual riding style because he was with someone else, but I kept waiting for him to catch up, and I was putting that down to 33bhp & nothing more.

Granted when I was filtering past traffic I didn't have a great view of him, but it was a safe (IMO) ride where we were both making progress happily. That ride comprised a mix of single track road over the tops, through to single/dual carriageway filtering & roundabouts.

Admittidley Baph when i ride on my own roads that i know, I am a bit stupid but when learning new bits and with others i don't ride like a tit. Yesterday and today I started doing this even on my own roads. I think i am just trying to make up for my lag on speed like you have said, and there isn't a need alone tbh.

Ah. In that case, my advice would be to listen to the famous words that get echo'd on here (and at meets) regularly.

If you can't ride slowly, you don't have a hope of riding fast.

For a while (call it a week long trial period), concentrate more on being smooth rather than being fast. For example, go for a ride & try not to use your brakes. Sit wider into corners, etc etc etc. After a week of doing that, see how you feel, were you bored to death by it, or was the challenge a welcome change?

Do that, and you'll be faster (and more confident) by the very nature of riding. And you'll still be on 33bhp, but you'll be faster.

All strictly IMO, obviously.

Re: Down again(of my own free will)

No i do understand what you are saying mate and i have for the past two days. I did it this morning and felt a lot better, kept it low in the revs more controlled corner speed instead of closing the throttle and opening it out. And its better for the achillies at the momento.

If it's better for the foot then even better.

I do agree though, there's a certain feeling about riding fast. There's a certain (but unique) feeling about doing everything smoothly - one which I've rarely had, but it's generally been when filtering.

I'm still searching for the two to combine.

Plowsie, glad you're ok ... now I'm hardly one to talk (having had 2 offs in 9 months of riding), but I gotta say ... "familiarity breeds contempt" ... you may well know your local roads very well indeed, but that's not to say that everyone else driving/riding around there does too. People who don't know the roads are deadly because they tend to change direction without warning, and they also tend to do things at the last minute (i.e. like when they get halfway past their turn, see the name of the road and then just turn because they can't be bothered going past it and doing a U-turn to get back to it!). These people aren't going to be checking their mirrors because they are too focused on identifying where the hell they are going.

Likewise with people that ALSO know the roads (cos they're local roads to them too) ... what happens when that driver coming the other way thinks "there's never anything over the brow of that hill, or round that bend, so today, I'll just overtake ... yikes! A bike!!" as you come the opposite way at break-neck speed? Doesn't bear thinking about :smt087

And as others have said ... get yourself some protection plz ;)

Glad you lived to tell the tale though!

Pete
