To derail the tread, just looked @ your German photos - any chance of the details of the hotel(s) you used?
I was in Aachen & Trier last year and hope to do a Rhine/Mosselle tour this September.
The Photos were up to your usual excellent standard

http://www.germanrhineland.com/ basic and rustic and 35 euro's per night bed and continental breakfast. (less if you can block book the accomodation)

unfortunately I only stayed 1 night and had one breakfast but it was fine, Andre has a massive well equiped workshop ( and one or 2 Ducati's ) and your bikes are indoors overnight. there is a games room attached with pool table , darts and drink by the bottle. A pub resides next door and is friendly.

Small village called Ruppertshofen (rhine valley one) there are several ruppertshofen's in germany.

1 hour from the nurburgring and a great atmosphere.

I wasn't too far from there on Tuesday, I was staying in Pooley Bridge on Ullswater for a couple of nights - the bike was at home in the garage though :(

The road is know as Hartside. it runs from (near Penrith) Melmerby to Alston A686...

Cheers for the info Richie. Me and a couple of guys from work have been planning a run up to the lakes from leeds, probly leeds to otley then north on A65 and A590/A591 round windemere up to ambleside and keswick. But we have been rained off on the last two attempts, just want the fair weather. I will see if we can get that road in as well when we do get up there, it looks too good to miss :D
