Help with car purchase?

I'm so bored hunting for a cage, maybe I can get some inspiration here.....

Need to buy the other half a small, reliable, cheap to insure and economical...... sub £2.5k car. Just sold mine with the view of getting two but I might wait till the commute gets too cold on the sv for mine......

Been looking at punto's, clio's......

Any recommendations?

Yaris fits the bill, but they hold their value well, might be looking at a 5 year old for sub £2.5

I'd avoid anything French, I had 2 Citroens (why I bought the second one I still don't know) and both were a bag of sh1te!

For that kind of money you could pick up something like a Civic, or an older Polo - both of which tend to tick the reliable and well made boxes...

i have a suzuki alto. only £40 a year to tax. 1.1 engine. can cruise at 90 mph without any problem. mine is 3.5 years old and I have 60000 miles on the clock and no problems (reaches out to touch some wood). They are £5400 brand new so should get a fairly new one for £2.5

Pug 106 gets my vote. Best small car I've driven by a long way.

I'll stand by the quality of the VW build.

As others have said.. Avoid anything French. Polo/Corsa/Fiesta would be where I would be looking. £2.5k will buy a decent little car.

Another vote for the Polo here, been running newish one for a year now, bog standard 1.2 no frills, excellent build quality.

People are so dishonest these days!!!!!!

Found a car that the mrs's was really interested in, 04 cityrover 1.4 with 8k on the clock for 2350.....to good to be true....YES, last recorded mileage 18000, so i called the guy back to confirm the miles and he still said 8k....

No, no, no, no, no!!!!!!!!!!!! Just don't.

Like the others said.

Nothing French nor Italian.

Yaris if you can find one. (Fore-runner Starlet was bland but reliable but old now, don't bother).
Polo if you want.
Fiesta will give you more choice than you know what to do with but not the most reliable.
Micra pretty reliable but the jellymoulds are old fashioned compared to Yaris etc. and you'll be lucky to find a new style one at that price.

+1

I've had Starlets and a Yaris. I found the Starlet a bit quicker than the Yaris though. No problems with either.

My reccomendation for Yaris was based on one I had before, T reg. Most reliable car I've ever had, 3 years and never needed anything. After my 6 years of French, I've just ordered another Yaris, getting to an age where I dont want to lift the bonnet any more.

just want to get this one out the way, then I can spend whats left on mine.......

For me .....I was thinking about a old wrangler, or a cheap trackbike, but I'll probably loose some of my manbits if I mention that to her:rolleyes:

How old are you? I'm in the same boat, but at 22 I would have thought insurance would be reasonable by now - how wrong could I be!

Not really a problem for me, the car purchase is for the mrs's I'm 28 and gor max no claims, the mrs's is a good few years older than me but cause she never hels a license it's suprisingly cheaper putting her on my policy......:smt100 There goes my no claims!!!!!!

My recommendation is based on my 2000 model 1.0L Yaris, bought new in Belgium, now done nearly 50k miles.

I've had to replace..................tyres at nearly 40thou, oh and a battery last year just in case. Otherwise just routine servicing.
