Hero Blobs

1 Attachment(s)
A little optomistic calling them hero blobs as the only reason my sister's knee gets to the floor is when she's dropping the bike(but to be fair this hasn't happened for a couple of weeks) To be on the safe side and prevent anymore damage we want to fit some crash bobbins to replace the cone shaped protectors that are already on the bike and are of no use (pic attached)
I have seen these crash bobbins on ebay - would they be any good and is it just a matter of unscrewing the old and screwing the new ones on?

Umh, they look suspicously the same as the Suzuki OEM bungs, I'd want to see how the mount to the bike properly before I parted with cash.

The Suzuki bungs screw to a bracket that then mounts to the frame, trouble is in a drop the bracket bends and then the bungs are useless.

If it were me I'd stick to a named brand. Like R & G, have a search theres plenty of threads on the subject.

They mount in exactly the same way as the Suzuki OEM bungs do onto the flimsy bracket.

As Fizz said, the R&G bungs replace the entire bracket for somthing that is not hinged like the OEM rubish and will not colapse and bend in a fall. They also dont require any cutting.

Ive fitted some to someones bike and it was easy.

Stick on some R&G's, nothing short of a tank would break them off

Very debatable, many peeps have had the bungs brake off so easly, in minor falls. For some they have worked fine.

IMHO whilst we could all disagree on which make of crash bung is best, the important thing is to get something branded/reputable, not some cheap crap off ebay.

Well, the bracket won't :) The bung itself might well though. Me, I'd get better bungs and cut the fairings. Or, get better bungs and a bellypan ;)

Trust me... the bracket CAN bend/fracture if dropped at high speed... (My crash bobbin similar to the one shown went through the fairing due to the bracket bending).

Was that an R&G or the OE ones though? Never seen the R&G bracket fail, just the weedy bolts.

I always thought hero blobs were the little rounded lumps of metal on the underside of footrests?

Indeed. Hero blobs are the screw additions to the underside of the riders footrests. Used to be getting them to scrape around corners made you a "hero", but bikes and tyres are so much better and the blobs on some bikes are, like, 2 feet long, it's not such a challenge.

The things depicted in the original pic are crash mushrooms I believe.

thos cones arnt brash bungs mate they are the default fixing for lowers
HOWEVER , they have done a bloody good job of keeping my bike undamaged when i crashed and dropped it.. but the fixings behind them bend and break easily and suzuki dont sell the bloody things as spares which is so infuriating!

The OE Bracket that holds the fairing in place (which is where many crash bungs seen on eBay, and also the ones I bought, are placed)

I really want R&G (or anyone!!!) to do some that don't involve cutting the fairing!
There are a few companies that do some that fit straight into the frame for the thou, but aren't advertised as fitting the 650 :(

I have R&G's on the R6 and i had to cut the fairings. At first i wasn't keen on the idea, but the hole is only small. You can't see it with the bung fitted. At the end of the day i would rather have a crash bung in the right place, as opposed to the wrong place....but its better cosmetically.

If you get the newer 2nd generation R & G's they do set for the 650 that dont involve cutting the lowers. I know they do this because Liz has a set on her K5 SVS

I found them on the R & G website

Re: Hero Blobs

Or just get a curvy and the R + G ones simply replace one of the engine bolts with a longer one that they screw onto, job done! ;)

northwind 02-10-07 05:18 PM

Re: Hero Blobs

Yup, but again those don't work with fairings- R&G do a set that does, though. In fact, I'm not sure they do the other sort for the curvy any more. But I've banged on with my low opinion of the R&Gs often enough, so, I'll not repeat myself :)
