Anyone tried Sport Attacks and Road attacks?
I'm looking for some winter tyres to replace the SC pro's because I don't want to wear them out on salty, wet roads when there's so much fun left in them once things dry up.
I'm undecided on whether to go for Sport attacks or Road attacks so anyone thats tried both, I'd be interested in hearing the differences. Which has the best wet grip or are they both the same? I don't commute on the bike and they would just be for "spiritted" riding during the winter on days off. I'm sure the Sport attack has enough grip but not sure whether the Road attack is going to (anyone used them on a track day?) I rarely ride on straight roads so milage isn't really an issue. 80% of their time they'll be near the edges. Any oppinions much appreciated. (if it helps, I could find the limits of grip on the std MEZ4's) Cheers, Carl |
Re: Anyone tried Sport Attacks and Road attacks?
i just got some road atacks and only done 50 miles on em but i like the profile but i stopped and spoke to my instructor on the way home and he said sport attacks were fantastic in the dry but on damp roads he found em frightning (on a zzr1100)

Re: Anyone tried Sport Attacks and Road attacks?
The road attacks are pretty stylee in my opinion.
They feel really stable in corners. (Even on an SV with std suspension [-o< ) |
Re: Anyone tried Sport Attacks and Road attacks?
I have road attacks on my Thou and on the roads they seem fine but over heat on track and get a bit squirmy

Re: Anyone tried Sport Attacks and Road attacks?
I had RAs on my old Bandit work bike. Much better than the 020s that were on it before.
Good mileage and quite sticky as well. |
Re: Anyone tried Sport Attacks and Road attacks?
i had road attacks......... and loved em, did well on a track day as well
my mate just had one fitted to the back of his blade, i dont think they make a front one though |
Re: Anyone tried Sport Attacks and Road attacks?
Thanks for all the replies.
I'm seriously thinking of going for the Sport attack on the front and the Road attack on the rear in the same vein as using an SC1 SC Pro on the front and an SC2 on the back. They should wear out at about the same time too. Still can't find out if the Sport attack is as grippy as the Road attack in the wet. Stop press! Now I read that the new Dunlop RoadSmart is better than the Michelin Pilot Road 2! Will it never end??? :) Carl |
Re: Anyone tried Sport Attacks and Road attacks?
There is loads of details about them in the section somewhere... Though I am on my second set now. As I swapped the rear after 8900 miles though I could have got more but the plug in the tyre was leaking air.

Re: Anyone tried Sport Attacks and Road attacks?
I've been using Road Attacks on my Ducati 750SS and they are brilliant tyres. The sport attacks don't work quite as well in the wet/cold and I'd be tempted to tell you to stick with road attacks front and rear. You gets tons of milage out of them on a low power bike like a 750SS or an SV650. My first rear lasted 12K miles before reaching the wear limit and that included 2 track days.
On that note the tyres were good enough to run at the front of the intermediate group at Pembrey. Even when trailing the front brake right up to the apex they felt solid an planted. Very comforting tyres with a lot of feedback. Mind you by the end of the day I was about finding the limits of them. When banked right over as far as the bike will go they do squirm a lot when coming on the power. However that's to be expected really. |

Thanks, exactly what I was looking for.

Re: Anyone tried Sport Attacks and Road attacks?
I just got a couple of the conti road attacks but haven't had the chance to mount them yet.... it just snowed so it seems pointless right now..
Anyway mine are Front Made in Korea and Manufactured in Nov 06 Rear Made in German and Manufactured May 07 (the number after the DOT ie: xxxxxx2507 tells 1-52nd week/and year so 25th week of 07) So, not really to hijack this tread.. but....along the same lines....has anyone noticed a quality issue with the tires made in Korea? How about mileage difference between fronts made in Germany and Fronts made in Korea (or with regular front tread and VS with reversed pattern) I know the newer tread is a reversed pattern on the front, so that said.. has anyone noticed any reduced grip in the rain? I wouldn't think it would matter as the contact patch on a bike is much smaller than a car and the tread lines seem to always have one side of the line open anyway (unless you were running nearly flat tires or something) |
Re: Anyone tried Sport Attacks and Road attacks?
Morning all.
I've supplied hundreds of Road Attacks, & dozens of Sport attacks, & the general consensus is that the Road Attack is an excellent tyre in grotty weather. As indeed the Sport Attack is excellent in good weather. One of my customers who does a lot of miles on his VFR800 has tried both. He has stayed with Road Attacks, as he reckons the extra handling advantages of the Sport Attack in the dry are outweighed by the loss of grip in the wet, & the shorter lifespan. I wouldn't mix a pair, as the Sport Attack has a distinctly different profile than the Road Attack, which may upset your handling, and as front tyres do not heat up as much as rear tyres (particularly in cold weather) you may well find that the Sport Attack remains slippery. The majority of Road Attack fronts are indeed made in Korea, I have had no negative feedback on these, even when a moulding error produced a batch of tyres with the directional arrows on the tread the opposite way round to those on the sidewalls. The sidewall markings were the correct ones. Cheers. |
