Dunlop Roadsmart
I was curious about comments in another thread about this new tyre from Dunlop. So I had a quick Google. I can't find any Dunlop website talking about this tyre (in English anyway!), but I did find this.
http://www.superbike.co.uk/products/...ws_147538.html Also MCN have a video up where they 'test' the prototype and give feedback for it's final design, yeah right! http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/Ne.../?&R=EPI-92277 Does anyone know where I can find some official Dunlop blurb on this new tyre? |
Re: Dunlop Roadsmart
Just in case anyone else in interested I emailed Dunlop and got the reply below:
"Firstly let me apologise for our website. It's currently being completely rebuilt and hasn't been updated since the redesign started. The new site will also take away the glitches such as the one regarding phone numbers. Secondly, our new Roadsmart is fully tested and approved for all years of SV650, faired or unfaired. The reports from the press have been fantastic and exactly what we'd hoped for - you may also want to have a look at: http://www.bikeanimal.com/article_racing.asp?article=4946 as well as a great written reports in MCN, SuperBike, Fast Bikes and Bike. The targets we set out to achieve were best Sport Touring tyre in the following categories: mileage, wet grip, dry grip, handling and stability and by common consent we reached our goals. Yes, we may have been equal first with another tyre in one or two performance categories but no other tyre came first in each of the five categories and at the launch everyone agreed the new Roadmart has the best all-round performance of any Sport Touring tyre, and better performance than a few from the Sport tyre group! Your front size is available to order from dealers right now and the rear size will be available within the next week. Details of the sizes and our recommended pressures for your bike are: 120/60 ZR17 (55W) TL Roadsmart 160/60 ZR17 (69W) TL Roadsmart Using 2.25 bar front and 2.5 bar rear for loads up to 90kg, and 2.5 bar front and rear for loads over 90kg. Re: Dunlop Roadsmart
This is good to know, i am in the market for some winter tyres and searched google for dunlop tyres and the roadsmart came up. I believe i will try these out as soon as i can afford it. Any rough ideas on the price for a pair?

Re: Dunlop Roadsmart
Quote:
I suspect it'll be ~£200. The new tyres always fetch a bit more for a few months. |
Re: Dunlop Roadsmart
Just looked on intobikes.com and they reckon a pair of 120/60's and 160/60's would be around the £180 mark. SO not too bad.
|
Re: Dunlop Roadsmart
It's interesting to see that out of the two bikes shown, one was a red SV1000.
Keeping my eyes on this one..... Garry:rolleyes: |
Re: Dunlop Roadsmart
I shall be having a chat with the guys at my local bike shop very soon as i'm going to have some put on with in a couple of weeks. I shall keep everyone posted.
|
Re: Dunlop Roadsmart
Well, i'm off tomorrow down to Newport and will be ordering a pair of these hoops and having them fitted probably Tuesday. I've been quoted £225 for both tyres, and fitting on the bike rather than just the wheels.
I shall let you guys know how i get on with them once they are on Cheers Racing Snake |
Re: Dunlop Roadsmart
Evening all.
I fitted a pair to an Aprillia RSV1000 last week, the customer who is a daily commuter into Nottingham hasn't reported back yet with his findings, I will report the feedback when he does. They are currently only available in certain sizes, I'm not sure the SV650 sizes are available yet. The 120/180 combination I fitted to the Aprillia worked out at £195 fitted to the bike. I reckon the price to forum members would be around £180. Cheers. |
Re: Dunlop Roadsmart
They are indeed available for the SV - rear 160/60 front 120/60
I ordered mine today at lunch time today and paid £190 for the pair plus £25.25 for fitting on the bike! so all in for £215.25 - not bad i don't think Racing Snake |
Re: Dunlop Roadsmart
Morning all.
As of last week my supplier had not received the SV sizes, I shall give 'em a tinkle today & see if they've got them in. £215 sounds a little top heavy for a fitted pair, bearing in mind I supplied the 120/180 pair at £195. I'll let you know what I find out. Cheers. |
Re: Dunlop Roadsmart
Hi there,
Had the roadsmarts fitted today! only done 30 mile on them so can't really give any constructive feedback. They are definately available at 120/60 - f and 160/60 - rear. Cheers Racing Snake |
Re: Dunlop Roadsmart
Morning all.
I spoke to my supplier yesterday, they have just got the Roadsmart in, in the SV sizes. I will be able to supply them at £182 fitted, to forum members. Let us all know how you get on with them. Cheers. |
Re: Dunlop Roadsmart
I've done around 100 miles on the new hoops now so i can open her up a small amount more and from what i can feel, they are going to be good!
|
Re: Dunlop Roadsmart
Morning all.
Good show! It seems that at last Dunlop have made a decent all rounder, it's now just a question of lifespan. Cheers. |
Re: Dunlop Roadsmart
I agree. That's the only thing that these launch tests can't provide, an indication of longevity. My Z6's will have lasted 9,000 miles by the next service, if the Dunlops can manage 7,000 with all the talk of improved grip etc then I'll be impressed. Shame it'll take me a year to run up the miles and find out! :)
|
Re: Dunlop Roadsmart
Longevity is a key factor in the choice for me as i replaced some BT014's with these. As my bike is my only transport to a from uni, and when ever i ride at uni i've usually got a lass on the back they squared off uber quick. I hope these last a tadt longer. Spanner Man just realised you are in Mansfield! Where abouts is your garage? Mansfield itself?

Re: Dunlop Roadsmart
I'm intrested in these, got something like 11,000 miles out of my first set of Diablo Stradas, and replaced with same, but the new set are looking a little low at the moment and I fancy a change, so it's going to be the same old Avon ST / Pilot Road 2 / Roadsmart Argument:rolleyes:

Re: Dunlop Roadsmart
Well folks, I have to say i am very, very impressed with these roadsmarts. Even just after the scrub in period, they are uber grippy in the wet and they handle in the dry real well too. I would definately recommend these if you are umming and ahhing!
Go for it! Racing Snake |
Re: Dunlop Roadsmart
That's good to know. Keep us posted on how you get on with them.
|
Re: Dunlop Roadsmart
Will do Gaff!
I'm heading out this afternoon with a pillion so i will see how they handle a gentle thrash in the dry two up! Racing Snake |
Re: Dunlop Roadsmart
Well since last time, i've not had hance to get out two up in the dry. or get out in the dry for that matter! I did go out for a head clearing thrash on sunday night/monday morning at about 1:30am in the ****ing rain and to be fair if i still had the bt014's on i'd probably be in a ditch as we speak! It's safe to say the head clearing did the job as i now have an awesome girlfriend!

Re: Dunlop Roadsmart
Excellent! Maybe Dunlop should advertise the relationship healing properties of their tyre on their website!
Glad you kept it out of the ditches. |
Re: Dunlop Roadsmart
Lol The point of the previous post was to show that they have good grip in the wet and cold! Anyroad i shall report back when i've got a few more miles under the clock!

Re: Dunlop Roadsmart
Oh I!!!!!!
Lol I'm back home from uni tomorrow so i should be able to get out on her more due to an increase in cash flow! Then when its dry i'll be able to go out on the bike lol! |
Re: Dunlop Roadsmart
I had a pair fitted yesterday. Obviously feel great com[pared to the Z6's that came off. But then they had a profile like a 20p piece!
They are very confidence inspiring though, even though scrubbing in at present. Will keep everyone posted on how they come on. |
Re: Dunlop Roadsmart
i lost a perfectly servicable D220 rear to a sharp stone, and had a roadsmart fitted in stead, definately more comfortable in the wet and dry and far more confidence inspiring than the tyre it replaced, will likely replace the front with the same when it needs it.
BiKE mag did a back to back test of the PR2, the RoadSmart and the Bridgstone sports touring tyre (BT014?) - they found the roadsmart the best in all catagories, drawing with the PR in some but beating it in others |

The BT014 is more of a sports tyre. |
Re: Dunlop Roadsmart
yep, just checked the article, 021 it was, they seemed to rate the roadsmart very well
|
Re: Dunlop Roadsmart
Well i've covered about 700 miles on my hoops now and i can only say they are brilliant! In the wet when its uber greasy they've spun up a bit but that can only be expected! I had a major moment the other day pulling onto the dual carridge way out of Telford where i felt as though i was riding speedway style. Although this is probably due to my inexperience and the tyres being cold.
Other than that, i'm very happy. |
Re: Dunlop Roadsmart
Nice to hear your opinions guys. The press certainly seem to be rating them. I'm due a set on my girl now and plan to get them fitted in te next week or two before its 7.5k service (actually 8k+). Well I wasn't going to service it BEFORE laying up. It makes more sense to have everything fettled before RIDING.;)
Looking forward to any improvement over the suspect D220s. Garry:cool: |
Re: Dunlop Roadsmart
Just to update on this.....
...my price for a pair of Roadsmarts fitted & balanced RIDE IN - RIDE OUT, was £175. Top result and so far, so good. Covered the first 100 or so miles after getting them done, so just the good miles to come :smt045. Garry |
Re: Dunlop Roadsmart
Considering a pair of these myself. Anyone know a good cheap fitter in the Stoke-on-Trent to Crewe area?
|
Re: Dunlop Roadsmart
I reckon another update is in order, after todays run to the coast for us lot up here.......
The tyres seem to have scrubbed in well now and despite not having been out much in the last few months, I felt quite safe in the bends. That's despite the temperature being no more than about 4'C and the roads being either damp and greasy, or covered in salt. So far, so good. Garry;) |
Re: Dunlop Roadsmart
Are these roadsmart dual compound then??
|
Re: Dunlop Roadsmart
Yeah it a dual comp. NExt winter i shall be having some of these fitted again i'm sure. Never tried dunlops before but i am pleased. COming of BT014's to these is not a bad jump at all. A quality tire in near enough all weathers.
|
Re: Dunlop Roadsmart
Well i've completed 1000miles on these now so thought I'd give an update.
Ultimate grip wise they seem to be better that the Z6's that came off (always difficult to tell with out back to back comparison of new tyres, but that is my impression). They are great in the dry and wet and do warm up quickly. Feels VERY planted once inthe corner. Wear wise, I'm measuring tread wear across the tyre profile every 1000 miles. As expected, most wear in the middle so I'll just tell you that they've dropped by 1mm in tread depth at the rear, and a bit less at the front. Lifewise they are looking good for 5-6k miles at present. This is a bit disappointing after the 9k miles I got out of the Z6's but that's the price you pay for more grip I guess. I had kind of hoped that the compound in the middle of the tyre would be similar in duration to the Z6, with just softer rubber on the edge. I'll update in a 1000 miles time. |
Re: Dunlop Roadsmart
I'm running the risk of ridicule here but...these are the points I measure the tread depth at (at three points around the circumference of the tyre).
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...-motorka-2.jpg This graph shows the tread depth when new and at 1000 miles, for the front tyre: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...tfront1000.jpg And this one shows the same for the rear: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...rtrear1000.jpg |
