Sigma Racing Slipper Clutch SV650 - spares or repair

Sigma slipper clutch SV650 (spares or repair).

Please read the description carefully.

This is a complete Sigma Slipper clutch assembly, including the steel and friction plate clutch pack made of brand new unused parts, of the racing type with the reinforced clutch basket. Designed for high power/tuned SV650 engines of any model and for competition use.

I bought it second hand about eight years ago for a project bike build and dyno set up before it as removed and replaced with a brand new one. It's sat unused in a spares box for the last 6 years and I'm having a clear out now.

The clutch was working perfectly when it was removed and, other than the specific wear described below, is in good condition.

The clutch back plate has a worn track where the inner friction plate runs as shown in the photo. While the clutch was working fine before removal I cannot say how much longer it will last before it will start slipping under power.

The original Sigma slipper clutch for the SV650 had a one-piece aluminium back plate and this type of wear was common. The design of the back plate was changed later to a two-piece item with a separate steel wear plate screwed to the back plate, identical to the Ducati back plate shown in the photo. Unfortunately the new Sigma back plate is not compatible with the original hub etc.

There are several ways that the wear can be addressed if you want to.

Machine the worn area flat and hard anodise the back plate and then use a thicker clutch pack to compensate for the thinner back plate.

Laser weld, to avoid distortion, the worn area to build the thickness back up and then machine flat to return the back plate to original thickness and then hard anodise.

Machine the worn are flat and machine tapped holes into the plate. Machine a steel wear plate and screw it to the modified back plate so that the back plate is now similar to the new design. You may need to tweak the thickness of the clutch pack to suit.

None of these repairs will cost more than a couple of hundred pounds and any competent machine shop can carry them out.

New these clutches, without the clutch pack, sell for about £750 so I've priced this to be half the price of new after you've had it repaired.

£150 Delivered (in the UK). Overseas delivery possible, PM me for prices.
