Feeling down and disheartened?
Does anyone ever feel down and disheartened about biking in general.
I often feel this way recently, seeing so many people coming off, getting hurt, being off work for months at a time, and thats just on this forum. Does it ever make you think? I alway used to say I could never see myself getting badly hurt or predict when I would die and for what reason. Then I took up biking. Now I'm waiting for the day I fall off, badly hurt/break something. I often think that I cant see myself living past 30 at this rate, which is unusual for me as i never used to think like that. Some days i just sit and think;- -Could loose my licence -Could loose my job -Could badly hurt myself -Could kill myself -Could leave loved ones behind -The list goes on All of those things above scare the hell out of me recently and it effects my riding and my enjoyment. Anyway thats my morbid monday morning thread to out the way. :( Discuss lol |

Yep. I wonder why. Why dont I just get a car, and sit patiently in traffic. Why dont I pay more road tax, high parking fees, lots of money on petrol, more insurance...
...then I remember why I love bikes. They dont cost as much :D And with a pat on my steed's tank, I pull the clutch in, clunk into 1st gear and roar off I'm not too worried about the danger side of things, I'm a carefull rider, I dont filter fast, dont take corners that quick. I still have about half an inch at least of chicken strip on my tyres :D I do worry abot other people not seeing me, so to make sure they look Im getting a fuel exhaust. Matt |
Re: Feeling down and disheartened?
My suggestion would be to simply sit and put together of the positive aspects about biking. The things you like and what you get from it.

Its easy to speed, you could be stuck behind a truck, accelerate hard to get by on a country lane to maybe 90 and bam under new proposals 6 points and £300 fine. |
Re: Feeling down and disheartened?
I came off and got badly hurt - pain like I've never known. And a week in hozzy, 2 months off work etc etc etc - but I couldn't wait to get back on.

Your other points were true though, unless like me your bike is a play thing and not a first mode of transport. |

If you can afford the cost of an incident/fine/ban.......then the pleasure would out weigh the worry, a different month where perhaps you question your liklihood of coping in such circumstances, it would not. If that make sense |
