when painting a contrasting wall (i.e, a different colour to all the others) which wall should you paint???

Always paint the darker wall 1st. that way if you get the lighter colour on the other wall, you can paint over it easier.

IIRC you should paint the one darker wall on the side opposite to where you are looking from, this will make the room look bigger

eg: if the door entrance is on the southern wall, paint the northern wall the darker hue

I'd paint the feature wall the one that has the most natural light on it.

I'd like to offer a handy decorating tip also, given to me by a "qualified " painter/decorator:

"Whenever you use a dry paint roller for the first time, roll it in the tray to cover all of the outside with paint, then leave it to stand in the paint for 3-5 minutes while you make a cuppa. This way it soaks up into the deeper part of the roller making your job MUCH easier, otherwise you're battling to use only the outside of it."

There a problem with this as the wall oposite the window has a built in wardrobe with naff cheap doors in it (rented accom so can't change these). I recon the wood will look gash with the red for the contrast wall!

Just to give you an idea of the room. It's a small room (about 3m from window to opposite wall and 4m from door to opposite wall) and as you go into the room the window is on the left wall, the wardrobe on the right.
