Weird vibration, possible ABS?
Ok my k7 didnt come with the ABS package but thought this was odd. Was in a empty parking lot so decided to do a break check for the first time. I was in first upto about 6rpm then hit both breaks. The back tire locked up as i herd the tire sqeeling, I didnt feel it kick out or anything which was cool. I wondered how that would feel lol. Now the front had a nasty vibration. Kinda like in a manual car coming to a stop not using the clutch, the car would vibrate as it would come to a stall. So i pushed the clutch in and let go of the break and it went away. I was still going about 15 mph or so. Could the front brakes have Anti-lock? I didnt feel like i was gonna do a endo or anything and i was on it kinda hard.
Gonna throw tis question in while your all here lol Is there anything you can do to stop the clunking from the headlight area while hitting a bump? Some kind of rubber groment or something? kinda annoying |
Re: Weird vibration, possible ABS?
So, you did all this (reved it up, hit the brakes, and locked the rear wheel) in 1st gear without the clutch pulled in, yet the strange vibration went away when you whipped the clutch lever in?
Think it could be from trying to lock the rear wheel with the engine still trying to turn it? My SV-650K7 makes some kind of a klunk from around the headlight/front fork area sometimes when I hit a sharp bump. Not all the time, but seemingly only when conditions are right. I take it as a reminder that upgrading the performance of the fork in on my winter project list. :D |
Re: Weird vibration, possible ABS?
Klunk is probably from a steering bearing - just tighten it and it should go away.

Re: Weird vibration, possible ABS?
But not too much, or you'll knacker them.
a lot of SVs make wierd clunks, don't go and torque the bearings to death |

I reckon your judder was what YZEtc says, though I'm not sure from the description. If you lock or severely slow the rear wheel with the engine engaged (ie, no clutch) then the engine ends up pushing against the brakes, it'll shudder and if there's enough resistance, stall. |
Re: Weird vibration, possible ABS?
All true. My bike had a damaged seal in other tube and first I thought that it would cause the noise when riding over sharp bumps, but when I got the forks fixed it was clear that it was the loosened bearing... The guy at the shop said it is very common in SV's.
I think it has some Nm rating it should be tightened to. If someone is foolish enough to tighten these without checking the torque, then by all means. |
Re: Weird vibration, possible ABS?
How are you going to get a torque wrench on the bearing preload adjuster?
|
Re: Weird vibration, possible ABS?
Not a clue, I let the guys at the shop sort it out. I only do maintenance if it includes hitting things with a hammer.

:smt077 Or fit a race can/system, seem to make less emergency stops with that on! He,he.... |
