Engine Flush & Filter Magnets

Does anyone use these... do they work?

I changed the oil on my Bandit at the weekend and decided to flush the engine with a Kerosene based engine flush that gets added to the oil, sloshed round the engine for 15 minutes and then drained. Before I start doing this to the SV I thought that I would ask for the general consensus. Is it worth doing regularly?

Does anyone have a magnetic sump nut or one of those magnets that stick to the filter? Is it worth getting one?

Thanks

I wouldn't bother with the sump nut, but the magnets that wrap around the filter I'd say are a good idea.

As to flushing the engine I wouldn't bother unless theres a lot of sludge build up

Re: Engine Flush & Filter Magnets

If you've ever been inside an engine to do valve clearances or similar you'll note it's remarkably clean in there. Flushing oils can bring their own problems so again, unless there was a ton of sludge in there (in which case the engine's probably scrap anyway) I wouldn't want to use them. They're too thin to lubricate properly while the engine's running with them in, won't all be removed when you drain them out, can remove deposits which are actually sealing up gaskets etc on older engines, and they're unnecessary 99% of the time in a modern engine.

Magnetic sump plugs and similar certainly aren't going to do any harm, but I don't bother myself. Do buy quality oil filters & oil though!
