Another Chessium alen screw issue
 

sorry for reposting if you know of a thread then just link me

i was applying my latest parts to my bike last night and after everything was fitted the last thing on the agenda was my LH passanger foot peg (oposite side to exhaust) i thought it would be easy.. but no they both melted and the threads sheared in one go !!! now i have a foot peg on one side and not one on the other.. looks stupid..

is there anyway i can get them off without rethreading?

Put in the right sized allen key, then wedge in a flat-head screwdriver? Might do the trick

You sheared of am M8 allen bolt, how hard were you heaving?? I dont think you'll get it out without drilling and re-tapping but please learn how to apply torque otherwise I feel you'll be asking a lot more of these questions.

there was hardly any pressure at all mate, i was using your bog standard manual L shaped allen key, its not the sort of thing you can apply alot of pressure to as the longest part is about 3 inches long, whilst been quite capable of unscrewing things as we all know suzuki apply cheap soft metal allen bolts as standard to SV's they litraly just slipped as soon as i got to the pressure.

I doubt you'd strip the thread on the way out with an allen key, it's more likley it was mangled on the way in but still holding fast. As you aplied force in the opposite direction it all came unstuck. That'd be my guess anyway.

Edit: Or you're a gorilla and have forgotten the "lefty loosy, righty tighty" mantra....

Just a suggestion. If the hexhole is nicely rounded out then try wedging a suitably sized torx key into it. If you got a heat gun then shield the paintwork and apply heat to it first.

its all sorted now :D i put a hex key in, gave it a tap with a mallet and it turned easy enough.

So the bolts weren't sheared or the threads stripped after all.:confused:

Sounds like the allen key was slipping in the head.

Shows the value of using quality tools and also describing the problem correctly. :(
