Sue Nash, the Victoria Centre's manager, said: "We're really sorry that there was an upset and it could have been handled better, but we have taken steps to resolve the situation this Saturday by ordering a quanity of these."

Good god :( Anyone who's ever worked in a pub (and I think we all do this at some point) will recall that landlords will do anything they can to avoid calling the police as it looks bad for them come licence renewal. Pub landlords are expected to handle minor disputes and disturbances on their premises.

Shopping centre managers on the other hand, when faced, not with angry drunken teenagers but carol singing toddlers, are completely unable to manage the situation and have to call the police... Note the stress on the job title, and again on the problem. Surely purely by calling the police the manager in question has shown that they are unable to perform their duties? The police are not a sodding dispute resolution service, grow a pair and sort your own problems out for god sake.

Hmm, unless the carol singers broke out the flick knives and started demanding money with menaces? I strongly suspect a Daily Express headline similar to this appearing at a newsagents near you over the course of the next month.

OAP's warning for sweeping leaves

http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/image...ydavies300.jpg Betty Davies said the warning was a 'blimmin cheek'

A council has apologised to an 88-year-old widow after a street cleaner told her she could be fined for sweeping leaves from her porch.
Betty Davies said the council worker had seen her sweeping the leaves and later knocked on her door in Splott, Cardiff.
Mrs Davies said she was "lost for words" when told she could be fined, but was being let off with a warning.

Mrs Davies said last Friday was a windy day, so she had decided to sweep the front of her house, where she has lived for 62 years.
She said: "I swept the leaves out into the pavement and I came back into my house and shut the door.

Betty Davies

"A road sweeper, who was on the other side of the road, knocked on my door and when I answered he said 'you could be fined for doing that'.
"I was lost for words - I just didn't know what to say. He then said 'I'm just giving you a warning this time'.
"I went back inside and sat down and thought 'what a blimmin cheek'.
"I'm 88 and although I can look after myself, I'm a pensioner and quite old." She added: "I've lived here for 62 years and that is the first time anything like that has happened. "I'm just glad I'm able to sweep up at my age."
