Is it me or are most bike manufacterers beginning to ruin the looks of motorcycles by making them all look like prototypes? Dont get me wrong some people love that new KTM superbike orangy thing but to m e it just looks like a computer design?

Yup.Innovation for its own sake,and blind following of fashion.
Problem is that no one has bettered the design of the Duke 916 and thats in nearly 15 years so they are desperate.Hence we get edgy this and wierd exhausts.If they let function dictate form,then the design would largely look after itself.

I like engineered design. Take buell for example, love the frame, brakes, swingarm and exhaust but hated the translucent plastics, faux air scoops and overly pointed bits. This is why I quite like porsche, it's function before form even if it involves keeping one model looking so similar for 50 years. It just works.

I think the 1098 is a damn sexy bike! I would say it is the best looking road bike ive ever seen inc 998 (cos wheels look better then the 916...). But i suppose that might just be me.

KTM seem to have gone for this edgy look on a lot of models, guess it might just be their trade mark?

Most of the honda's and many of the other new bikes are getting ruined with these OBSCENE silencers and exhaust systems! :rolleyes:

I think there is similarity of machines being offered in a variety of classes, but there still remains a machine out there for any potential owner to be happy with.

If we really think about it, producing something that is not completely "off the wall" yet pushes the envelope of design that much further is not at all an easy task.

yeh some fair points there but to me not just becuase i have a curvy but i feel that its full of character and looks like its been made with alot of thought put into it where as quite a lot of new designs look like just prototypes and theres know character been put in them! I have to agree with Honda there stock exhaust systems are one step to far lol!
