Its modification time!
Howdy, long time lurker, only one-time poster. Looking to come out of my shell :)
Spent a small fortune on my sv650n (06) a few months back, and my bank balance is finally coming back into the black. And the only sensible thing I can think of doing is getting myself into debt again :) Now, following from here may be some very, very stupid questions. I've never modified any bike before, let alone a suzuki. Hell, I can't really service the thing yet - I'm only about 2000km in (and loving every minute of it). Firstly, lets start off with what I would consider the dumbest question of all. I've got the sv650n, as I've mentioned. Over the past few months, I've been admiring the sv650s more and more. To the point of where I've been considering actually trading in my bike for a sport model. But then I'll lose the fact that I know mine was taken care of very well - and the matris suspension kit ;) From what I can see, the only different between the naked and sports model is the front fairing, and the clip-on handlebars. Would I be right in saying that a switchover from N to S wouldnt be that expensive, and possible? And wouldn't look like complete ****? :D Moving on from there, exhaust time. The thing I love about the stock exhaust is the damn sheer size of the thing - and watching kids burn themselves when they try to touch the shiney. Also sounds fairly nice and loud ;). I'd be afraid of buying an exhaust to find its a quiet whirry one - like what the hornet is equipped with. What I've been looking at is the Renegade twin exhausts - nice and high, and from what I can see, look awesome. And from what I hear, they do add a nice bit of bhp into the mix :) And finally (for now) - and this is something I'd normally never consider - as we all know how **** these look on cars. Im thinking for the black SV, either a purple or green colour would look fairly well. Dear god I hope Im not pushing any very wrong buttons with people here :( So, what would you folks think? Yay or nay? And of course, how much would this set myself back? And if youre still reading after those points, would any mechanic be able to apply these modifications in a decent fashion, or should I look into getting it done by a suzuki dealership? Given the time of your post (and the lack of location in your profile) I'd guess you're possibily from overseas somewhere (mostly UK based here) ?
but that's not really material to your questions, so here goes. conversion from naked to faired, whilst possible reqiures a fair bit more than just the fairing and clipon's, you'd also need the headlights,front loom,front subframe,mirrors and screen not sure what else but probably more as well, that'll cost. Exhausts, just about any slipon will give a much better noise, the twin Renegade is a very nice setup and sounds awesome, but don't expect to much on the power gain side, as you're added another can and extra pipework to. £100 cheap slip-on will sound almost as good for a lot less money. As you picture isn't working I can't tell what the other mod is so can't advise on that. Cheers Mark. |

All that Rictus said. If you have the money to burn, I'd go for the twin underseat Renegade exhausts, but if not, any aftermarket can is going to sound a million times better than stock.
I can't see the picture as I'm not at home (pictures blocked at work) but I'm not a fan of the chav lights. Rictus on the otherhand :roll: Welcome to the site by the way. I am sure you have already noticed, but Ireland has it's very own sub section. It doesn't seem to be used all that much though. |

It'd be easier to swap your matris-equipped forks onto a faired model... The bits for the swap are mostly quite expensive because they're the bits people destroy on a regular basis :mrgreen: If I was in your boat, I'd be looking for a faired SV owner who's considering doing the swap the other way, that's just as common a question.
Can't think of anything constructive to say about the lights :D |

Nice looking bike. Dont bother converting it into faired - I'd imagine the cost even with second hand bits with your own labour to convert to faired could buy you another bike. But definitely get an exhaust - if you really need to spend some money I like the look of the twin ones, though very happy with the scorpion one I have- and theres one going cheap on here.

Do the renegades fit the pointy? I thought they were for the curvy?
As for the fairing, its not really worth converting tbh. If you really want one then maybe save a bit more and have both? :P I guess thats down to you. When i detroyed my front fairing it cost about £600 to repair/replace. :( Glad it was the 3rd party paying tbh! Lights... if done right can look good. But how often will you be out on it at night? |

Just the front fairing and clip-on handlebars would have me happy. It'd also make for much better wind protection - driving long distances on the 100km/h+ roads in Ireland make for a bobbly head on high wind days :s Back to the chav lights - they're somethin that if done well, I believe would look great. The majority of my driving is done late at night. If anything, it'll improve visibility ;) |
