Cholesterol Levels

went for a MRI scan the other month due to hearing loss in left ear.
Results... nothing wrong... as far as they can see. you've only lost low and mid tones in left ear.... Chin up mate.
But the bloods state that my Cholesterol Level is 7.8
had the diet chat, and now been on this boring diet for 3 months..........:smt017
last blood test it was reduced to 6.6 after 1.5 months...

Just wondering how our elders lived without this usefull info...
sorry I was being sarcastic there....

they didn't and they had all the "Bad food's" that they could eat.....

Arr well, you only die once.:smt049

Re: Cholesterol Levels

I've been battling with high cholestorol all my life, which a lot of people can't understand as I'm built like a Nagasaki racing snake. I had 2 heart attacks, at 20 and 21, a TIA (mini-stroke) at 42 and currently on beta-blockers because my blood pressure has gone through the roof.

Dad and lil bruv are type 2 sugar-mongs, dad's had a stroke, my eldest daughter has had 3 replacement heart valves and had a heart attack at 19, and my mum had a triple bypass at 64 yrs old.

Heart trouble and cholestorol related problems are a way of life in my tribe, you just get used to it. I still eat pretty much what I like, but in moderation. For years my doc was telling me I had to gain weight, and when I did he told me to lose it because it was all fat - I can't win so now I don't bother that much. My way of looking at it is this - I ride fast bikes and I ride them as fast as I can, having high cholestorol is the least of my worries.

Had mine done last week in some blood tests came back as 3.9!! aparantly that is low. A lot is down to your Genetic make up. My dad has always had low cholesterol and he has alwys eaten what he wants, red meat all the foods you are not ment to etc and now at 57 his is only 4.2.

Hopefully i will take after him then.

Re: Cholesterol Levels

funny you mention this - mine is at 5.1 with the highest it "can" be 5.0

I went to the GP and insisted I have blood tests done as it had been more than 12months since last time. So all came back fine apart from cholesterol.

Now baring in mind I'm 26 and never ever had any problems this is a bit worrying (for me). You know what drops your cholesterol fast? SARDINES!!! but not from a can :) buy them fresh and just pan fry them with water - NO OIL!! add a bit of lemon just for taste. This saved my granddad many many times.

Interesting fact was that the GP told me if I had done those tests last year they wouldn't have said anything as the "target" was to get everyone below 5......apparently this year target is 4 :)

go figure

Jesus tap-dancing Christ, what a bummer Lozzo - how much bad luck can a family have? :(

Though I must admit the name 'sugar-mong' brought a guilty smile to my face, I've never heard it described that way before! Fair enough on the bike ethos though :smt077

It's not bad luck, it's genetics. None of it has ever stood in our way of doing what we want. Daughter rides a Gixer 600 K6 and lists rock climbing as a hobby, dad and bruv are active people - dad was 22 yrs in the army and bruv walks everywhere, mum is always out and about and a keen hard-core gardener. We just have a few more hospital appointments than most people.

Managed to get mine down to 4.2 but prefer fish to meat and I've had a triple bypass and lost 3stone. I try to avoid fried, fatty and dairy products, but eat loads more fruit, apart from that no special diet. A little of what you fancy without over indulging seems to work for me
