Imported SVs

I'm fairly sure my 2001 SVS is imported for europe, firstly because it was sold by Taz from new (they do lots of parallel imports), and secondly because of the headlights. Plowsie reckons it is and said to check the V5 document, but I can't see that it says anything about it on there (maybe i'm being thick). Is there a definitive way to check?

I had to butcher the back of the H4 bulbs to fit the wires onto left bulb (as you sit on the bike), but the right bulb fitted fine. The left comes on for dipped beam, and the right comes on for main beam. My understanding is that UK models, both come on for dipped beam, and I'm not sure about main beam?
Either way, I know its not a blown filament, new bulbs!

How easy is it to fix this? Dad thinks he can sort it (used to be a sparky) but I don't really want a bodge job. Is it easy to get hold of the full headlight gubbins and swap them out, or something like that?

Thanks in advance for any help :)

If it has a projector light it's almost certainly an import. Our first SV was an import from Taz and had those, and also IIRC the log book says the seller verifies the bike is new or words to that effect.

Thanks Lissa, you've proved I'm definitely thick!

What's a projector light?

BTW, I was amazed at you and Pete, you two can sure shift that SV.. only time I stayed with you was when there were double white lines and cars in the way!

If it came from taz then it almost certainly is an import. my old K3 was bought from there new and was a parallel import.

i only found out come first MOT and the headlights pointed the wrong way.

Get your local Suzuki dealer to check the chasis and fram numbers that will tell you 100% if its a UK bike or not. It makes no differance to the value come trade in at all. Well it did not for George whites when i traded it in for my 6-R anyway.

According to Pete, who notices things like that, you don't have a projector light.

The chassis number for UK bikes starts JS1AV.

In which case, my bike is UK. Thanks for that :)

So it seems like a previous owner buggered about with the wiring then? I just looked in the handbook and on page 75 and mine is the set up on the left hand side of that page. Maybe someone converted it from N to S and got euro parts to do the job?

People must laugh, hearing that lovelllly exhaust, then seeing a reindeer with two santa's and a christmas tree fly past.. :-D

Surely if its a 2001 model, it'll have had all those things (lights and so on) sorted by now for previous MOTs?

If it is an import, it'll say so in the special notes section (section 3, which I think is to the right hand side of the second page) next to the owners details. If I recall (I haven't got the one for my NC to hand) it says something like "Previously registered on <date>, imported into UK in <year>"
