GSX-R master cylinder.
Putting this up in here as the gixerjunkies seem to be ignoring my thread.
What gixer master cylinder will fit on my K5 gixer 600 front end? Regards |
Re: GSX-R master cylinder.
any you want to use, from any bike or aftermarket.there is nothing specifically forcing you use gsxr one.
if your brake line fittings are for radial master you want to use radial.meaning angle at which they go in to master. |
Re: GSX-R master cylinder.
As long as you're using standard diameter clipons then I would think any master cylinder designed for a Jap bike and possibly Ducati ones too.
I've got a Gixxer radial fitted to my lowly sv fronted curvy.:p That allowed the wires for the brake switch to plug straight in. |
Re: GSX-R master cylinder.
I've got an '05 ZX-6R radial master cylinder on mine.

Re: GSX-R master cylinder.
Your SV master cyclinder is exactly the same as a Gixer one up to when they started fitting radial types, which I think was after your front end was made.
If you're after the best one then I'd say go with a Brembo 19/20, or for an upgrade to what you have at an affordable price, the 04 model R1 onwards m/cyl (which is only about £125 new). The R1 job is marked as a Brembo, but it has a different bore and ratio to the full race 19/20. Just be careful if buying a Brembo 19/20 one on eBay, RobW#70 pointed out that there are some fakes out there. |
Re: GSX-R master cylinder.
05 gsxr is radial.
with brembo if you not sure what size to get 19x18 is better choice.if you wont less travel you just use 19x20 lever on it. |
Re: GSX-R master cylinder.
OK cheers. What year did the thou's get radial brakes?
|
Re: GSX-R master cylinder.
They got radial calipers in 2003, but the master cylinder didn't change until 2005.

Swapped it for a Brembo 18x19mm billet m/c, which is that wee bit nicer, but in all honesty doesn't stop me any faster ;) This is personal taste, some people like a lever with relatively little movement, I prefer a bit more travel. I don't like the GSXR one, it feels cheap to me and seems bendy, though that could be total placebo effect. It definately didn't seem as linear in power as the R6 one, which doesn't make an awful lot of sense really but that's how it felt. Sort of squishy, like old fluid feels. I've had 2 fitted and they both felt the same, so I don't think it was fitting error, but you never know One thign to note for the street bikes is that most radials stick forwards further than standard, and that can cause fairing clearance issues- mine just barely fits, we're talking 1mm maybe, and with the R6 one I trimmed the adjuster slightly to give it clearance. |
Re: GSX-R master cylinder.
Oh, I just bought another R6 one off Ebay this morning, as I want to try it with my single-disc experiment, the 18mm doesn't work that well with it. So that might come available in a few weeks.
