talk me through taking fairing off

thinking about taking the front fairing off an sv and making it into a naked bike.quite fancy one of the digital speedos made by trailtech so theres no question of buying replacement sv clocks. how easy is it to remove the fairing, and would rewiring the headlight wires into a single headlight be simple enough?

thanks

Fairings easy enough to remove, doesn't take long.

Buy some headlight clamps to fit round the fork tube, remove top yoke to fit these if need be. Drill top yoke to fit your clocks to, wiring is all fairly simple to sort, you may need a different speedo pickup method, though there is nothing to stop you leaving the SV pickup in place just as a spacer.

Wiring you'll need the speedo, hi beam repeater, indicator repeaters etc which you can just splice into the main loom to do (as well as power feed)

thats good.I might give it a go.ill have a look around for some headlight clamps.is the top yoke the same for the S and the naked models? Yeah, these trailtech speedos come with magnets which work as sensors and they're fitted to the forks.yeah your right, probably worth using the original speedo drive as a spacer.

have you done this yourself? Any other advice you can offer?

thanks

Nah mate I had taste and bought a nekkid in the first place :-P

You wanting clipons a-la cafe racer? Or wanting to convert to some renthals etc?

If so then you''' need to drill the top yoke from the top to fit those.

No idea about the top yoke, they fit on the same forks, same spindle, but the S has less holes in it.

Clocks and bars are mounted to top yoke on naked, whereas on S theyre round the forks and to the front subframe.

I'd probably convert to renthals although some streetfighters look cool with clipons.I'll read into the yoke thing. it may be easier to buy a yoke for the naked rather than drilling the S yoke.

are footpegs in different positions between the S and naked models?

thanks

Re: talk me through taking fairing off

yup S slightly higher in footpegs.

As to drilling yokes, its only 4 holes not particularly technical.

maybe I'll tackle the drilling then haha. noob question now :

anyway of changing the footpegs? is the difference in the peg position because the pegs on a naked are different? or just that they're mounted in a different position? I've got long legs. need all the space I can get

thanks

Different rearset (peg hanger)

Maybe different gear linkage too?

If you're building a streetfighter then get some decent adjustable rearsets on it, might as well do the job right.

right. I'll see what information I can find. I'm not doing a full on streetfighter. I just want to include some of the streetfighter characteristics. rearsets would be nice but the ones I've seen are £200+

thanks

Make sure you get ones made with ball bearings I've heard lots of people whinging about the bushing bearing ones being fubared by little lowsides.

Whereabouts are you?
