Front calipers

I'm changing the pads on the bike, '99 Curvy S, got them off now but, I've removed the split pin (as per Haynes manual) but the pins will not pull out for love nor money. Are they supposed to just pull out? I've WD40'd them so if it's just corrosion they might come free.

They are known to corrode.Try getting some grips on them and rotate them to break them out.May need more drastic action if that fails.

Yep should just slide out. Put the clips back in and try spinning the pins gently to release them. They only come out from one side. Also the spring clip thingys that are behind the anti squeal shims put pressure one the pins.

Slide out? Pull the other one!

They'll be corroded solid if not touched for a while, I had to drill the other side of my calipers to get a punch on the end of mine, grips did not work even when combined with proper penetrant oil (not WD its naff at that job) and a gas torch.

When you put them back an anti sieze compound is good.

Re: Front calipers

you could drill through the pad pins themselves with a v small diameter drill, bout 2.00mm, and then put a smaller pin punch through the hole and tap them out.

Re: Front calipers

To tap them out you have to drill or grind the cover over the hole on the other side of the caliper off, in which case a normal parallel punch worked a treat on mine. (still took a beating like)

Well that should make it easier unless of course the allen key socket that you're using snaps of almost flush with the bolt head :smt013:smt013:smt013

Impact hex bits are my best friend. And the impact driver and lumphammer.
