180 rear tyre on a 650 ??
Evening all.
Has anybody done or know an easy wheel conversion to get a 180 rear tyre on a K3 650 naked? Cheers |

Only because I was desperate and it was free I hasten to add!
Bandit 1200 seems popular on the curvy, no idea about the pointy, you'll more than likely need different spacers. |

It'll fit though, I'm sure, they use the same standard wheel (with different spacers)
Get me a pointy and I'll tell you. Though admittedly I already have a curvy, and a B12 wheel, and I've never stirred my lazy **** to do the numbers |
Re: 180 rear tyre on a 650 ??
I can make the spacers and even re-mount the caliper if needed no problem. Just wondered if there was a popular wheel used to get the 180. i will take a look at a bandit wheel, cheers.

Re: 180 rear tyre on a 650 ??
It'll definately change it, but as you know yourself the SV's geometry was mainly designed so they could bolt crude suspension to it and give it to new riders, and it wouldn't do anything mad- it's very soft chassis wise. You've changed the geometry on your track bike no doubt?
You put a 180 on your standard wheel didn't you? How did you find it? As a general rule the people most vocally against fat rear tyres have never tried it, but I think you're an exception if memory serves? |

Oh and indeed, it might improve the handling (depending on what you are expecting it to 'do') ... I was just pointing out that even on the correct rim, it WILL effect the handling (possibly positivity, possibly very little, possibly lots, possibly negatively). As for my 170 and 180 tyre choices, I did that as I had the tyres/got them cheap. I realised it'd probably make the bike handle differently to a 160 and it did - but I didn't care coz they didn't cost me much/'out !!! I actually think the squeezed up 180 works pretty well 8) What I will say is that the bike felt 'better' with a proper (good condition) 160 in it ... ... but to be fair, there are so many variables* it is silly to say anything definitive that someone else could use!! To take out a few permutations that different brand tyres would introduce, I'll tell you the 180 setup I have on mine ... it is a reasonably worn (1/2 - 2/3) 120/60 conti Attack on the front, and an old - but not very worn Macadam 180 on the rear ... works ok, steering is fairly neutral** ... not sure I'd want to try and get silly lean on it, but I only use my bike for commuting, so not an issue for me ... *state/condition/profile of front and rear tyres for a starter!! ** better than with the prety worn 020 160 rear I have on there at the mo, and better than a 160 rear 120/70 front!! |
