What Would You Study?
Due to family circumstances, I had to leave school and get a job rather than going on to university, something I have always regretted a little.
I would have studied Ancient History, as I have always been fascinated by it, with an especial interest in Ancient Greece. Maybe it's because I was named after the founder of the city-state of Carthage:D So if you could study anything, what would you choose. I would still go with Ancient History.............with motorcycle mechanics as light relief:D |
Re: What Would You Study?
I too didn't get the opportunity to continue my education after secondary school. I have been working full time ever since!
Having seen all my friends go on to University, I felt a little left out and always wanted to learn something new so I decided to start a counselling course at the college. It's an evening class so I can still work, best thing I ever did. :study: |
Re: What Would You Study?
You're already attending University - The University of Life :D
Seriously though, best of luck with the course. |
Re: What Would You Study?
I got the chance - Equine Management (which is much more than discovering how to shovel horse poo... it teaches you to tell others to do it for you as well! :D)
I always liked ancient history and archaeology too, but was always heading for the Army from school, no time for Uni... but when injury put me out, it was something that I looked back on and kinda thought, it might have been nice. Then when injury put me out of work... well, let's just say that being a crippo can be very liberating. ;) Gave me a change to go to Uni that I would otherwise never have been able to really... OK, so I'm older than most of my tutors - but my mental age makes me average out at the youngest one there. ;) That and the simple fact that they didn't really have courses like this when I was 17, s i s'pose it was worth the wait. |
Re: What Would You Study?
Mechanical Engineering, with a bent towards automotive and motorcycle development - that would be my choice.

Re: What Would You Study?
I studied mechanical engineering when I left school but to be honest my heart was never really in it and I wasn't that good at it. I worked in engineering for about 14 years and then moved into sales which I much prefer.
If I were to switch careers today, I'd like to be a chef! |
Re: What Would You Study?
I had all the opportunity to go to university (A* gcses etc) but after less than a year of 6form I'd had all i could handle of idiots and useless teachers, so I jacked it in. That was, jacked it in before I got kicked out for being too mouthy to the idiot teachers :smt094. But that's another story..
I may regret it one day, but at the moment I'm working until such a time that I *really* know what I want to do, with the aim of then doing it  And that seems to have been a good thing- my boss is great, he got me into biking, I've bought a bike etc.. :thumright: If I could study anything it'd be motorcycle mechanics.. have started half heartedly looking for a course but not found anything. Maybe in a few months I'll visit the local garages and offer them little knowledge with enthusiasm who's not fussed about money :D |
Re: What Would You Study?
When I was at school I was always better at the arts, but I knew from early on that I was interested in animals. So rather than study A-levels that played to my strengths like English and Art I went for the sciences and maths. I am at uni now studying Zoology and although I find it extremely interesting, it's no walk in the park!
I sometimes wonder if I did the right thing, but if I had stuck with what I was good at and gone on to do art I'd probably just be bored right now. That and I don't like the idea of a degree which is based on other people's opinions of my work, them telling me how I should do it and marking it accordingly. Which is why I only do it as a hobby  At least what I am doing now is a challenge. I may or may not make efficient use of it when (/if) I finish but I want the knowledge more than anything. And unfortunately money is what counts in this life and if I want to move out and travel, that's what I need to find  There are so many wacky and wonderful degrees out there now, but some of them just seem a complete waste of time. I'm sorry, I don't see why you need to spend three years studying Film and Television, I just don't see it :smt102 |

Which was a complete waste of time. I'd be further in my career now if I'd spent 3 years as a runner and worked my way up! |
