New tyres? Be careful.

Just had new tyres fitted and the guy before me didn't get 10 yards from the garage before he'd dropped his beautiful Speed Triple. Thankfully though he wasn't hurt although his bike wasn't so lucky (snapped gear selector, re-profiled bar end and cracked engine casing).

He's been riding virtually every day for 32 years and as a high mileage rider, changes his tyres every couple of months.

I'd just like to say that if you're having new tyres fitted then PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE be careful until they're properly scrubbed.

That is all.

I have new tyres, they've travelled all of a few hundred yards up and down my road a few times.
I'll have to be extra cautious, I've only ever ridden on square tires since I've had the bike, so now I'll have new ones that tip into corners differently, which I'm not used to :)

Everyone has seen someone crash, just after having new tyres fitted, at some stage. :)

This is an extreme example on youtube:

Old vid, but still worth a look.

I spanked my brand new Firestorm on new tyres. It only had 6 miles on the clock, and 5 of those were done on the test ride before I picked it up.

forgot that the SV has less grippy tyres than the DRZ today whilst nipping down the town in a bit of a rush one after the other, drop it into first and almost managed to back it into a junction motogp style:rolleyes:

I rubbed mine down to get some of that shinyness off, then go for a gentle poodle to scrub them in; my dads also always followed this, and never had an off.

Mate of mine dropped his shiny new Z750 in the car park with new tyres after giving it a fistful. Be careful!
