Touch and go write off?
After my little prang the estimate for repairs comes to £2237-82. The bike is valued and insured at £3500. The local bike shop reckon it's touch and go as to whether they'll rebuild or write off...I want it rebuilding.

Write it off and buy salvage?

Re: Touch and go write off?
What a nightmare Lozzo. Hope you get everything sorted.
You might have the option of taking the payout and also buying back the write-off. You'll almost certainly be able to fix it up cheaper and if not you'll have a good pile of bits to sell on. Offer 'em 500 quid. |

Re: Touch and go write off?
I am considering it tbh.
I've rebuilt enough seriously smashed bikes before, and this isn't even anywhere near what I'd consider serious. However, just for once, I'd like a bike that was all straight, immaculate, undamaged and not on HPI. |
Re: Touch and go write off?
buy it back fix it up and sell it on at a profit then buy a straight one, i was in the same mind until my mot on saturday when the guy gave it a right good looking over and said it was fine, still want a 650s tho ;)

Re: Touch and go write off?
if its close on value you can agree a contract repair where the insurance pays the full amount before right off and you agree with who's doing the repair what gets fixed and what doesnt (small scratches etc) at least then its not on the hitlist and 99% fixed

There are certain things I can sort myself, such as the indicator housing (I have a spare), bar end (only needs smoothing and painting), brake lever (only needs smoothing and polishing), footpeg hero blob (I'd leave it as I can barely see the damage), R+G bungs set (they sell the bungs separately), Scorpion can (I'd fit a Fuel at half the cost), repair and repaint all fairings rather than replace, weld the mounting lugs back onto the headlight (I can plastic weld to a professional good standard) etc. To be honest, there's not a lot I'd need to buy, the main fairing frame, radiator and brake pedal being the bulk of them and those can be sourced used. Some repair hours would need to be put in and someone else would have to be brought in to paint it professionally - I know just the man too. I'd have him paint both mirror casings as they'd look better gloss black and have only got minor scratches. |

Re: Touch and go write off?
i wrote my entire front end including my rad into a curb, and it cost me less than ?1K to fix mine, my excess was £250 and voluntary was ?500 , so i could of spent ?750 to get the balls rolling or a little extra to keep my bike and rebuild it.
what actually happend to your bike? in this one my handle bars are straight.. http://b5.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/0...87277435_l.jpg |
