Radiator Question

Two months ago I jumped on the front brake avoiding a (w)reckless SUV and because I squeezed too tight too fast and didn't apply the brake gradually the front locked up and I went down going about 35kph. I've been riding about six months and still don't have the reaction instincts that I should have had in that situation. Most damage was cosmetic but the radiator was done for. After a month a half of waiting for a good used radiator that didn't show up I decided to bite the bullet and get a new one. Those things are f****ing expensive.

My question is how much would have frame sliders have saved my radiator on my 06 naked SV? and is there such a thing as crash bars (kinda like what you see on stunt bikes, not that I stunt any) that would wrap around the undercarrage?

I love my SV and it held up well for the fall but that Radiator protrudes so much that it almost appears as a design flaw in terms durability during a fall.
I guess the moral is DON'T FALL.
Thanks everyone this forum is great.
