What is the best for touring on a Pointy?

I have a silver Pointy (04) Called Silvie and I would like to carry luggage on her. :smt057

What are the best options for carrying stuff and is there any particular kit you would recommend? :smt115

My aim is to travel to Europe eventually and tour about for a few weeks.

Thank you,

Jayne :smt101

Baglux tank cover and tank bag.
Oxford soft panniers I used these on my SV without problems, expandable and came with waterproof covers.

As much as I hate saying this , a top box would be great as would be waterproof & secure and be ideal for touring .

Depends on if you can live with the looks and how much touring you are going to do .

Cheers Steve

apart from a baglux tank bag dont use soft luggage spend the extra money and get hard luggage, a few years back on the way home from holland one of the girls in the group had abad experience when a tie down starp/bungee came loose and wrappedit self around her rear sprocket and chain almost causing her to crash

hard luggage every time

A topbox would be best; suzuki do (or did?) a thing that goes in place of your pillion seat, which can take a Givi topbox. A 45 litre one is a good choice as its not wider than your mirrors (means you dont have to worry when filtering as you are only as wide as your mirrors then).

The covers destroy themselves at some point over 100 mph - and filled my luggage with water - helpful.
Also make sure you use a protective cover - I took the paint off the side of my bike by not doing so :(

seeing as though you are a girlie type...may I suggest a tailpack rather than panniers for a beginning. I myself have been over to France with an Oxford one and also a tankbag.
let me explain..... I do have a set of panniers but for suzy but have a high level zorst on Dave so couldn't use them...I found that with a tailpack there is no uneven weight hanging on either side of the sv. The tankbag is good for resting myself on when I get tired and extra holding space( also for directions-clear pocket on top)
Tailpacks expand to aproximately the same volume as panniers
This year I intend to use the panniers on Suze...I am not looking forward to that, but have no option. This is my advice but at the end of the day its over to how comfortable you feel with the idea of luggage....from one girlie to another

Something like this may work for you. I fastened mine to a second hand pillion so there are no straps to mar the paint.

Thank you for the advice every one, I am now considering my options and have picked up an Oxford catalogue.

I like the idea of a tail pack, but am concerned I may lose my pillion seat. I was kind of hoping to get my lazy ar*e Boyfriend on the back of it too, but if I need the space I guess I will just have to go on holiday on my own. :jocolor:

Still keep the ideas coming, I liked the idea of the second hand tail with stuff permanently bolted in place. Is a tail expensive?

By the way, I am not the most girly of girls out there. In truth I am some what of a tom boy, having been into adventure sports since childhood with my Dad. Plus I have a toy tank that my Boyfriend gave me for my birthday last year, he is the romantic one, I am the one most likely to go out mountain biking and get covered in mud!:smt048
