Caliper mounting bolts - Threadlock or Coppaslip?
First of all let me thank everyone who has ever contributed anything useful to a thread on brakes - caliper servicing, seized piston removal, bleeding, anything - I read them all and needed to! Also about one PM away from going on Northy's banned list, so a special mention there :salut:
Anyway, just two short weeks after I started on my binding front brakes (I made every mistake ever heard of and invented a couple of new ones) I am ready to remount the caliper and sign off, when I run headlong into this wobbler... Haynes - Apply a suitable non-permanent thread locking compound to the caliper bolts Bike magazine - Apply copper grease to the threads of the caliper bolts You're having a laugh! Which is it peeps? Thanks for your vote. And think yourself lucky you're not coming on the Ecosse rideout this Sunday or you'd have to hear the whole sorry tale  |
Re: Caliper mouting bolts - Threadlock or Coppaslip?
for a road bike I would thread lock them, for a racer I would copper grease and lock wire.

Re: Caliper mouting bolts - Threadlock or Coppaslip?
As of 5 o'clock it's 4-2 for thread lock. Good enough for me!
(Unless the 2 for coppaslip were Spannerman and Sid Squid of course...) |
Re: Caliper mouting bolts - Threadlock or Coppaslip?
Thread lok:D

Re: Caliper mouting bolts - Threadlock or Coppaslip?
Threadlock unless there's an alternative locking method such as tab washers, lockwire etc.

Re: Caliper mouting bolts - Threadlock or Coppaslip?
Non peminent thread lock---and----THE CORRECT TORQUE.
Remember these are screwing into alloy casings and it is so easy to strip them by overtightening |
Re: Caliper mouting bolts - Threadlock or Coppaslip?
They coppaslip them at every reputable bike dealers I know, and I do the same. Just make sure they're torqued correctly.

Re: Caliper mouting bolts - Threadlock or Coppaslip?
I hardly threadlock anything, but then parts tend not to stay on the bike long enough to rattle loose ;)

Re: Caliper mouting bolts - Threadlock or Coppaslip?
Copperslip.
I use titanium bolts and these came supplied with the CS. Never had a problem with them coming loose. *Touches head* |
