insurance
Sorry if this gets posted every week, but i couldn't find anything that helped.
I'm looking to buy a zx6r if i can afford the insurance. I'm 18 no no claims, havn't owned a bike before, just been recommended to this place with some pretty cheap 2007 0 mile models, would like to get one just because I love the looks. Now, the best quote i've got is ?1900 TPFT. The SV i was looking at I can get insured for ?650. Now, not looking for that cheap on the zx6r because I know it just won't happen, but any ideas on saving money? Maybe dry weather only policys etc? Thanks for any advice, Dave |
Re: insurance
If you look at the facts:
Age Experience Bike Model Bike Age/Value Highly Nickable Then i think paying loads is unavoidable. Try ringing around and getting reductions, but if i were a broker, i wouldn't insure you for that bike. :) The only way to seriously reduce the cost will be to make it TPO(third party only). That means they only have to worry about you damaging something/someone else as opposed to it getting nicked. A garage mght help a bit, but probably not massively. The same can be said for security eg alarm, but again thats more initial outlay. I've never ridden a restricted ninja, but by all accounts IL4 don't take to restriction as well as a SV would. |
Re: insurance
I'm 19 and passed my test in september, I pay ?550 tpft on h and r insurance, they're very good, I got my massive excess insured for like, ?40. Well worth it, if you ask me. That zx-6 won't take to restriction very well at all, especially the newer models- and if you're going to not bother restricting, then you're much likely to get pulled on a ninja than on an sv, I should think. If I were to have bought an IL4 bike, I'd have probably got a CBR600F3 or something like a zz-r600. The SV pulls very well, all things considered, on 33bhp.
Also, I wouldn't recommend only riding in dry weather, I've learned most of my bike control riding in storms and the wet. Also, I don't believe you can get dry weather only policies. |
Re: insurance
Unless you're completely loaded, do yourself a favour and get something else. Get a naked bike - feels like you're going much faster, and get some miles under your belt. Then after a year of no claims get the Ninja.
But if you are loaded, go for it! |
