SV 1000. any info?
 

im considering new bikes.. and im considering an SV thou, and tracking the 650. the SV thou i can imagine is allot heavier.. but does anyone know about the suspension, speed.. things to look out for? and can you get the frame and wheels in black lol, the prices are good on the SV thou your looking about 2900 upwards for something decent.. rather than 7K on a Super sport that i will just smash to bits in an instant lol, so i think my mind is set but i just need a little more info.

I went from a SV650 to a SV1000 in 2004, and at first missed the 650.

The thou is a totally different beast. It is heavier, and needs to be 'muscled' in to corners however the better suspension means that I have a lot more confidence cornering on the thou than I did on the 650.

The brakes on the thou are awesome (from the old gixxer 750) and the engine pulls like a train. The 650 had to be worked quite hard when the pace was upped a bit, with the thou you just wind on the throttle and it takes off.

Top end - no idea, however an indicated 150mph is only 9300rpm (redline is at 11k).

Once I had a set of cans on the thou (I have got remus cans with 60mm outlets) I forgot all about the 650 lol.

If you are looking for a 650 with more grunt then you will be disappointed - iit is a totaly different bike, however if you are looking for a cheap big v twin that (for the money) handles well and is damn quick then you will love it.

if i remember correctly the bhp is around 120,top speed 155
also from what ive read/heard the handling apparently is,nt as good as the 650 which is why a lot of folk reccomend the 650 as a better all rounder.the jist i get from this is if your going to upgrade to a thou,then there are better options out there....hth.

118BHP at the Crank about 103-5BHP at the wheel. Weighs about 190KG (15KG more than the 650). Top speed (actual) is apparently 145-150MPH.

I rode on one and it was ok, wasnt really anything like the 650 at all, I didnt go for it as I didnt really think it was that much better than the 650, but that might have been that particular bike. Nice bike all in.... But you can tell what I chose instead :D

Have to disagree there - though it depends how you define 'good' I suppose.

You cannot through it around as much as the 650, however the brakes and suspension on the thou are far better than a stock 650 .I find that this, combined with the extra weight, makes it feel more planted on the road.

the 1000 is the first bike i got my knee down on so it can't be that bad altho i do know what people are on about when they talk about handling because i did the same when i got the big thou, it needs more effort to push the thing around, it doesn't change direction as quick as the 650 but when u can do 30mph or 100mph in the same gear (3rd) that is a bonus! i like the thou but i like the 650 too each bike does its own thing differently and very well at the same time.

Agree in part with the above posts, the suspension is far higher quality than the 650, as are the brakes. In as much as the 1000 is a bigger bike than the 650, you won't be able to ride it like the 650, but this is hardly anything surprising, you can't throw an SV650 around like you can an RS250, 'cos it's a bigger bike.
Criticising a bigger bike for being a bigger bike would be somewhat unreasonable. The SV650 is great bike as we all know, but the 1000 handles better and is a better bike all round.

They do a restrictor kit too wideboy! They're faster too, topped out at 113mph so far.
