itunes??

I was wondering if any of the extremely knowledgeable IT peeps could help me please? I've put together a slideshow of pics in windows photo story 3. I'd like to add some music to the background but it wont let me use any of my music in itunes??

Is this because they're the wrong type of file mpeg4 (not sure if this is the correct name, but I'm sure there's a 4 in there somewhere ) or something  or is it to do with the licence side of it

Thanks in advance, Gaz

Re: itunes??

if it's music you've downloaded from itunes it probably has apple's version of Digital Rights Management (DRM) embedded in the track, meaning you can only play it on itunes or one ipod (i think, although i use itunes i've never used the itunes store)

there is a way to remove it, but i can't remember how, once the DRM is removed you can throw it through any transcoder program to give the output you require, i'd recommend mediacoder

Cheers lone wolf, Is that mediacoder easy to use? I'm starting to think that itunes is a bit of a rip off, whats that 79p for?

Re: itunes??

once you get used to it it's fairly easy, it's very flexible in what you can do with it.

yes, itunes is a rip, for something that costs them nothing to produce, and an insignificant amount to distribute (a digital copy of a music track) your 80p goes mainly to the record company, especially as the RIAA wants to offer the artists16% of the profit for downloadable music, and 0.58% for streaming music - it's not like you're supporting the artist in this situation.

or, you could just join 10% of the population and start using bittorrent - better quality mp3s, and no DRM crap;)
