Another angry rant...

What narks me is...

The press's ability to call for the resignation of anyone who ***** up or does something against the general will/opinion of the public.

Take Alistair Darling for example. Leave party loyalty etc aside. The Northern Rock debacle lumbers on and on to who knows what conclusion. But the journo's are out there baying for someone's job or head on a platter (his - C4 tonight, probably others by now). Don't we all make mistakes or errors of judgement? Don't we all occasionally take a gamble at something hoping that all will come out well? This is just one example.
As soon as someone in power sticks a post-it in the rubbish bin by mistake, the smartar$ed journo's leap on it like a pack of blood thirsty dogs ripping a carcas apart. They must feel so smug and clever in the knowledge that someone else gets to spell check their work for them or that they are free to dish out their personal opinions in the knowledge that someone out there will sit up and listen and nod along with their wittering inflammatory nonsense. Why do they always have to assume that some body has to lose their job? Who do they think they are calling for the resignation of people more important than themselves? They certainly are not speaking for me.

It really annoys me!!

Garrrr! I'm angry. Journo - GET A LIFE!! GET A PROPER JOB!!:smt075:hackedoff:

Indeed - this may well be true. But they are often heard calling for the resignation of someone beit someone in government/the met/some other place of power etc etc. As soon as they come out with that sort of comment, I disregard all that they said previously - it just becomes redundant afaiac. :toss:

They sit behind their newsdesks or broadcasting microphones of invisibility like some sort of protective shield in the surety that they can express certain populist opinions and get away with it - earning themselves a pat on the back from the line manager and a place in the book of 'Today I had a public verbal pop at...':rambo:

But it's only their cabinet job that's on the block, they still get to be an MP.
Are we not entitled to the 12 best and true men/women to Govern our country for us? and AD doesn't seem to be up there.
If a Journo makes a spelling mistake we can always go out and buy a different newspaper.

Whilst I do have some sympathy with the individuals concerned on a personal level, in today's 'democracy' this seems to be the only way in which we are able to get rid of some of the incompetents in places of power...

I totally agree mate. Journalists are there for reporting the news, not making policy, getting people hired or fired, or any other personal agendas. If I could I would read/watch a totally impartial news paper/show.

Damn right stingo, your spot on. It seems that someone has to pay for whatever mistake has been made; no-one can account for human error these days. Nobody is perfect, and no-one seems to give anyone else a margin for error.

Anyone else want to join the Rant Posse?

Matt
