Safety wiring - oil filter

Every bike I've had to prep so far has had some kind of metal cover over the oil filter that I've wired down for race scrutineering.

On the SV as you know it has a filter that simply screws onto the engine at its mounting point.

Is there any requirement to safety wire the filter, if so how? A photo would be useful if you've done this already.

I'm interested more in what scrutineers are asking for.

It's all I do to the ZX10R and the scutes think it's ok that way too.

That's weird, over the years I've been picked up for not lockwiring sump plugs, filler caps, brake bolts etc etc.... but never the oil filter, which I have never done. Either I've been lucky or it isn't something they require?

Yep jubilee clip and lockwire ...

To only have ever had internal oil filters, what sort of old nails have you been racing before

aye thats the 1st i herd about doing the oil filter aswell but its not alot of hassel 2 do it so i might aswell do it rather than getting 2 a race meeting and having 2 do it.

the brake bolts dont need done if ther is no holes in them the sump nut and oil cap need done!

With the exception of a Honda CBR6 its been Yamaha FZRs. They had a steel or ally cover that completely covered the filter :D

As far as oil filter wiring, the ACU regs state that it must be properly secured, not necessarily using lock wire. I suppose it comes down to the particular club or even scrutineer as to the interpretation but I think this has been checked on almost every scrutineering session I've been to.

I like the clip/wire method as its nice clean and simple so I'll go with that.

Interestingly there is no mention at all of wiring brake caliper bolts etc, I think it only mentions the oil filler cap and drain plug.
