oops dropped it
Hi
Pulling out of my drive way today, checked left, right, then left. All clear started to move out and then heard a beep beep beep from a car hurtling towards me from the left. I looked , BRAKED, and stopped, car slowed but carried on. Because I was about to turn right I had a lean on , and the braking caused the bike to lurch that way. I couldn't hold it and so slowly dropped the bike. I'm ok, Bike ok, but a slight crack in the indicator front, right. Bit peed off that I dropped it. Also a bit peed off the driver didn't stop to help me pick the bike up. Managed to do that. One thing that I think caused me to miss the car was that the neighbour has a boat parked to the left of my drive and so it is hard to see passed it. I pulled out onto the road to see passed but still missed the car. I'm typing this because I want comments. Do you think the driver should have stopped? I feel there was a 50/50 fault here. he was going too fast that on my two checks left I didn't see him coming, and also I should have moved out further to check again. Rant over! |
Re: oops dropped it
Not suprising really, lots of people will just bugger off rather than face their error. Most people probably have no idea just how heavy a bike is either..
You did good easing the fall though! |
Re: oops dropped it
cheers!
Just embarrassed that I dropped it! |
Re: oops dropped it
It happens to the best of people. Don't sweat it. Minimal damage was done that's the important thing.

Re: oops dropped it
You'll never prove he was speeding so it'll be down to you. So don't think you've lost out on a claim, but as you say would have been nice if he'd stopped & at least helped you up.
Must be some good crash bungs to get away so lightly! |
Re: oops dropped it
We hear the car drivers saying sorry I didn't see you mate ... Guess you got a dose of that? In the eyes of the law its your fault as its his right of way. ****ty I know :(
My dropages:- I've done it on a junction... the bike just stalled mid turn as I was banked over... Fell straight off. Jumped up was like WTF happened there (I dont think the bike had been running well for a little while for some odd reason) picked it up (I don't know what people have an issue with... I've had to pick it up 3 times...). A couple of people came from the building works opposite to help. Did no damage luckily but I had to turn ignition on and off cos FI light came on... drop sensor at a guess. Other two times were because the side stand had got knocked back when I was wheeling it out... Damn it. I even picked it up from the wrong side (****ed off mode strength)... Go me. :p |
Re: oops dropped it
I did a similar thing on a CBF500 whilst learning. I was pulling left out of a T-junction but there was parked cars which made it hard to see anything coming from the right. A guy came flying down the road, I grabbed loads of front brake (whilst steering left slightly) and over she went. I snapped the clutch lever but the instructor was ok about it all.
It's just one of these things that happens. The driver never stopped either. |
