Newbie has to confess his colour cockup so that others don't follow
love the forum, dont post much 'cause im shy, but i need a vent for todays cockup.
i bought a curvy in yellow, fully faired as my first bike not 6 months ago, it looked the dogs, that was until the week before last, i droped it at about 40. snapped the gear changer straight from the hanger, scuffed and cracked the left hand fairing lost my screen, mirror etc. being a tight ar5e i decided to delve into the forum in search of guidence rather than taking it to a pro for repair (newbie, thirdpart only). The site served me well and all went swimingly. One week on the bike is mechanically sound again with a few upgrade hear and there. Great, lets get the fairing sorted and back on the road. Filled, sanded, filled again, sanded , sanded , sanded and sanded again, lookin good lets buy some paint and primer. Here is the lesson, NEVER BUY YELLOW (FINE SCRATCH FILLING) PRIMER FOR YOUR YELLOW BIKE! I put my heart and soul in to getting the best posible fininsh i could. Unfortunately using a yellow primer changed the shade of the finished article, and i dont mean a little either. I know its not the paint thats wrong as i used white primer on the lesser damaged lowers, and they are a perfect colour match. So here is another weekend working on the bike not riding it all because of yellow ****in' primer! aahhhhhhh!!!!!!:smt089 |

You're ok using the deep scratch primer, but you do have to go over it in white to get the right finish, the yellow top coat is pearlesent so needs a white bottom coat, I've learnt lots about painting too!!

You do realise there are two yellows for the curvy?
The early strong yellow and the later paler one, which is pearlesent. |
Re: Newbie has to confess his colour cockup so that others don't follow
I got the pearl canyon yellow, the deeper one. The paint suppliers told me it was pearesent and to put a white basecoat on first

There's usually a code under the seat I think it is, or ask Hovis for everything yellow!

look here for your colour of bike
http://www.bike-paint.co.uk/suzuki%201999.htm then ring these peeps for your correct touch up kit http://www.motorbikepaint.co.uk/ very very helpful and they will send you the right stuff, my main dealer uses them. I've got a touch up kit coming on monday. Ok it cost me 8 pound each for a tip ex type pot( base, colour, laquer) in Y9H( pearl lively yellow) a fiver for a tube of filler, and they gave me a sample pot of compound for over the top. Carriage costs because companies don't like transitting paint but I think its worth it for the right products, and they are very helpful, they don't mind you ringing for advice neither |
