Chain rollers disintegrated.

Riding home yesterday on my ER5 noted chain was noisy, so checked it and found the rollers on the split link had disintergrated! Rest of chain O/K and not worn. Link matches chain, possibly seized on that one link? Any other ideas?

Possibly, or the split link was to tight when fitted!

How many miles done on the split link?

My guess would be it's an aftermarket chain that's had a split link used to join it, and maybe it was fitted incorrectly.

The only time I've had a link done by somebody, a good dealer actually, it always hung up and you could spot it in the lower run of the chain easily. :(

That's why I prefer the endless chain option.

When you assemble a chain, you need to grease the split/rivet link ... this often gets overlooked ... prolly what happened here ...

Thanks lads, chain was on bike when I bought it. Bike was owned by a young lady who had hardly used it. Yes was probably not greased when fitted!
