Internet monitoring
Do any of the IT experts on here have any views on the subject of this thread?
I'm not sure if it actually matters since it's all going on anyway whether we want/like it or not. I can't help feeling that the government authorities are woefully behind the industry, they simply don't seem to grasp the concept of what can be done if people put their minds to it, which is what really threatens things like ID card databases etc. By the time the regulatory bodies get their bottoms in gear and look at this sort of stuff, the perpetrators have moved on to the next scheme. |
Re: Internet monitoring
Phorm is bad, bad, bad. Did I say bad.
BT are conning their customers by telling them it is to be a security tool (webwise) to eliminate phising etc and supply target advertising etc. All your browsing history will be supplied in real time to a company operating in China owned by a known spyware provider. and in turn they will bombard you with adverts. You can of course opt out. But all your browsing history will still be sent to china. and in return BT, VM etc will get a kick back. I am sure it is illegal under data protection rules and possibly human right rules. But until a test case how do you stop them. If you run firefox there is a plugin under development to stop it at www.dephormation.org.uk other than that you would need to use secure proxies |
Re: Internet monitoring
+1 for TimWilky.
This is very bad, very-very bad. Think of how much you freely give away over the internet on a daily basis??? Even on this forum we freely give up details about ourselves, which can potentially make us targets. I agree that this must be illegal under the DPA as they information being intercepted can clearly identify a living individual and as such should be closely protected. |

Re: Internet monitoring
Erh isnt that illegal... oh well I'll never sign up for BT or Virgin or carphone warehouse now... thats the only way it'll stop if people vote with their wallets and stop using those services.
