I'm free

If anyone remembers this thread from the summer, looks like the policeman was genuinely trying to scare me into slowing down and didn't process any paperwork. Been well over 6 months now so I think I am safe, been a bad 6 months bike wise though.

Anyway the scare tactics worked, I now have an IAM license and don't really significantly speed any more. It has kind of taken the fun out of road riding though but I can now see that I had been riding like a tw*t for far to long. Looking back i'm suprised that it took 5 years for me to pass an unmarked police car.

So can you tell us how fast you were (alledgedly) going now. You were understandably a little coy with the details 6 months ago.

Not entirely sure but and depends how long he was following me but I guess an average (in km/h of course) of 110-115 over 3 miles, probaly tops of 125, all this while overtaking long queues of rush hour traffic. Its was in a NSL btw. The only time I checked the speedo it was to drop down to 100 to go over a hump in the road. While these arent record breaking speeds, certainly not a scratch on captin nemo in the current speeding climate the law enforcers cetainly consider them dangerouly fast. IIRC nemo was on the IOM wasn't he.

I think the thing that saved me is that I didnt use the right turn filter lane to overtake, something lots of bikers do, this is also when I slowed enough to notice him. Lucky there wasnt any oncoming traffic because I used to use the middle bits of wide roads to overtake into oncoming traffic and I reckon that would have been game over.

Anyway lesson well and truly learnt, after talking to some of my biking mates its a speed we have done without checking the mirrors but I had got away with it for so long I though was immune.

The funny bit is when I first saw the police car I actully wondered if he was on an emergengy call and wanted to get past.

lucky to get away with that one mate, sounds like you took it as a hint to take it a bit easier which is probably the best outcome:cool:

The traffic was moving but it was sort but at 45-50 mph but in a solid block as such. The hint is definatley taken.
