so whats it to be?
howdy doody all.
well the bikes just come out of winter storage and the 1st thing i need to do is change the standard d220 tyres as the front is getting low so changing both. Over recent months ive read various tyre threads here and some of the feedback has been very imformative..like not a lot of people like the d220 although as yet ive never had a problem with them but know there is a lot better out there. General opinion seems to be a/pr 2s b/z6s c/pirrelli diablo's d/avon storms e/bridgestone020 even though now there is the 021(which i like the sound of 15% more tread life apparrently) so question is.... which of the above would you go for if you wanted at least 5/6000 miles out of them of med/hard riding? and reasons why, then when the pennies are saved the most popular ones will more than likely be the ones i go for(might even put these tyre theads to bed once and for all, lol. :cheers:all. |
Re: so whats it to be?
I'd get whichever was cheapest, they're all ace. I've got Diablo Stradas on just now which are, well, exactly as good as the Roadtecs they replaced since they're very nearly the same tyre. 020s are pretty old, I don't think they stand up in this company really and they're not well discounted either (because for a long time they were the best road tyres out there, a lot of people are attached to them I think) Still not a bad tyre, but basically the others do everything better- more grip, more miles.
I plan on using Storms next but I've got a set and a half of Stradas to kill first, that'll take most of the year at current rates unless I get another flat. |
Re: so whats it to be?
picked up a pair of roadsmarts today, goin to fit them tonight
they came highly recommended by independentphoto so he better be right ha ha ha will need to get it booked in for its MOT now will let you know how they perform (bearing in mind that I am not a racer):shaking: |
Re: so whats it to be?
The 021's always get a good writeup and its got the sticky sides for the hard bits of your medium/hard riding. I got the 020's and got no complaint but if i was swopping it'd be 21's.

Re: so whats it to be?
Pirelli are offering £30 cashback on a pair of their new Diablo Rosso's. These are quite expensive so the £30 will bring them back into line with the others on your list.
Here is the link for the voucher: http://www.pirelli.co.uk/en_GB/brows...ign%20Slip.pdf For my last set of tyres I had Z6's and I really liked them. I have just changed to a BT021 on the rear and I like feel of this tyre too. Tim. |

Re: so whats it to be?
I've had Pirelli Diablo Stradas (basically the same tyre as the Z6) and found them great on the road, and good on track & the Nurburgring, nice and progressive when they start to drift. Going for stickier tyres this year as I'm not off touring, and fancy some bling ;)

Re: so whats it to be?
Oh... god.... not another tyre thread! All the tyres you have listed are good on the SV, everybody will have a different opinion as to what is best as we all look for different things and have different riding styles. As Northwind said, go for what ever is cheapest!
I was fitting different tyres at every replacement to begin with to find which suited me best. |
Re: so whats it to be?
Take a look at the new BT0-16's apparently they are 5 compund on the rear and three on the front.. looking at them for my next change :D

Re: so whats it to be?
anything more than sports touring rubber on the roads is ego not sense.
Z6 or Strada's were my preference, In fact will probably put one of these pairs on the T'bird next. Cheers Mark. |
