2000 sv650s redline

Having just bought another sv650s after some t****r of a white van driver wrote my last one off I have noticed some worrying(to me) differences.
Its a 2000 s model with 23500 on the clock. After riding it for a day or so Ive noticed that at about 25-30mph in 2nd+3rd there is a definate whine. This changes in pitch on acceleration and in different gears. Checked chain, replaced oil etc.
Took it to a garage to have a quick look who said don't worry 'see if it gets any worse.' Its running a full stainless akrapovic exhaust and has been dyno jetted.
Lastly to add to my worries a mate said he'd listen said don't worry and then decided to do a stationary burnout. Cheers!! He had the bike at 10+ thous revs for sbout 20 secs. Could this have done any damage and is there a limiter on the early models. I am a worryer

Cool. I can think of a few other words for him. So yathink all sounds ok. I know bikes rev high but had visions of things going bang

I'm pretty sure they have a rev limiter. As for the whining I'm pretty sure the most common place to check is the clutch. I'm also pretty sure there will be someone with a better opinion will be along shortly to give you some proper advice.
My yellow one started whining a few months back, somewhere around 3000 revs, in nuetral, in all gears that had varying pitches. Its had a strip down and rebuild, because it had been sat around and ridden on short journeys, some believed there may have been a sticky ring. we flushed the engine, but its still being rebuilt so I can't tell you if it was rectified.

You say its a new bike to you, do you know any of its history?

Some history. Chain and sprockets last done 6k ago. regular oil and filter changes. Cam chains and tensioners also replaced not long ago. All in all its been fairly well looked after. Just this wierd noise. Can't remember my old 1 doing it. What makes it wierder is can only hear on bike. Had not been reidden for 12 months so thought it would go with a few miles but no.

FWIW Curvey SVs have a rev limiter.

The bike will be fine after your mate's antics. Chain tension and lubrication are the main reasons I've found for a whine when moving. Specifically too tight or not enough lube. Check the tension is the same all round the chain and that with the bike on a Padock / side stand there's enough free play (30-35mm IIRC). An Abba / NWS stand will give a different reading as the swingarm will be lower not having any weight on it.

Is it the exhaust note that is different or mechanical sound?

If it is simply an exhaust note change, the SVs have a ignition retard in 2nd and 3rd gears, could it be this?

Oh and did you stand there and watch your mate do that?!!? ... I'd have been well peeved!!

That is exactly the sort of reason why I don't have/want any mates!! :D

I've hit the Rev limiter more then a few times, it makes a few lovely bags to let you know your there.

whole chains been gone over and no tight spot. 30mm play and certainly enough lube. Just been out on it and held 30mph in 3rd. Pulled clutch in and noise went. Let out, noise returned.
As for standing there watching could just about see him through the smoke. KARMA is a funny thing. what goes around comes around. what was that about 2nd and 3rd
