Seal Skin Socks

Someone on here reccommended that I get some to wear on my non-water proof sidi couriers.

Now, questions:

1. Where can I buy these socks?
2. Are they really made from seal skin?
3. What's the benefit of such socks?

Thanks

Mr Diggler.

I've had these in the past when I was in the forces. They are OK but good old plastic bags are good enough and they make it easier getting boots on and off. I found the sealskin made my footwear feel tight and restrictive.

You can get them from most good retail outlets such a walking shops. Wiggle probably do them at a good price. They are a bit chunky and crispy though, but do work. If it is hot you get sweaty I find in them. Not cheap. I use them in the wet.

I've been told that they're very good at keeping the water out and not too pricey. Not looked into it, but try hiking/camping shops- Snos+Rock etc.

And no, I don't think that they are made from seals.

Sea Lions maybe...

looks like there is a thinner one now, which would be better as the others are walking sock like.

I have a friend who has recently bought some sealskin gloves, says they work a treat so am guessing the socks are pretty good too.

Someone recommended them over the weekend. I like your idea better though.

I've got a pair of the thiner lighter ones that I wear when I'm cycling. They are really good, keep your feet dry.

However as Dr Rich says, I find that wearing them makes and keeps my feet more sweaty than normal socks. But they are definately better than plastic bags are.

I got mine from a camping / walking shop, some Millets will if they are a big store, Blacks will also, cheapest place is probably going to be wiggle.

Bringing an old thread back to life, but I'm about to place an order with SealSkinz through work (we're looking at becoming a stockist) so if anyone's interested I could order some stuff in for you at mates rates... Not sure what the discount would be yet, but it'd certainly be less than RRP. Anyone interested?

I love my sealskinz... Never used them on the SV, I have waterproof boots, but they're amazing for cycling. Foot down in a stream? Doesn't matter. Shoes still wet on monday when you decide to cycle to work, but put your foot down in a stream 16 hours earlier? Doesn't matter. They're like voodoo :smt045
