My venerable rubber...

I have what appears to be the original tyres on my 2003.
As it has only done 5k I rather think they are the original tyres; they are certainly the type fitted as new.
That would make them 5 years old. I have noticed some minor cracking on the front. (I mean really minor). Would it be a good idea to change them for newer rubber or am I being daft?
I was comparing the rear to a mates on his new er6 and his certainly looked 'rounder' than mine (bridgestone troll hacker or something he had on his) but meybe d220s are not as round as bridgestones?
So I am now thinking I need new because my rear is 'squared off' and that both might be past their shelf life.

Yeah a good idea. I'm getting some Avon Storms for the Viffer, cos I loved the Avons on the SV and they are a good deal!

Five years to a set :smt005. Man, I wish I was that lucky. Putting two unsucked Polo mints on has gotta be better than the old uns. :p

:DThe Bridgestone Battleaxe range has tons of tyres in it, he's likely to be on BT021's.

The tyres on there will still work but they'll be getting on a bit by now. If you were thinking of changing the rear anyway, I wouldn't keep the front. They won't be dangerous as such though from what you've described so I guess it's a funds-dependant decision.

Well I went on ebay and bought some avon storms from roundandblack.
He had a bit of a typo on the webby that caused me to ring him today and while I haven't actually had the tyres yet I can tell you that he is one helpful and knowledgeble guy :)
They were also shipped today and apparently will be with me tomorrow :)
Worked out as 150.95 to my door but they will need fitting of course.

Good excuse to get the rear out and give the back end a good clean up.:)

Are you going to join us for part of NW3 Skeetly?

I get all my tyres from roundandblack, they've never let me down with having exactly what I want in stock, and I can have them fitted at their workshops a 25 metre walk away for 27 a pair quid to loose wheels.

Where you gonna get them fitted? (useful for future reference)

If you come on NW3, make sure you post on the booking thread so we know you are coming.

Lucky devil Lozzo. I've got a 30 odd mile round trip to find someone to fit mine :(
Roundandblack though eh? Top lad :)
I had a go at taking the flipping wheels off without a paddock stand.....
Anyway its now ride in ride out for me until I do get a stand :)
Lobitos (yes really) tyres in prestatyn (gwespyr) do a ride in ride out so I'm off to give them a go tomorrow. The only other place that actually did a fit and balance was Buckleys but they were super busy so Lobitos it is.
For loose wheels they were charging 15 quid but i guess it'll be more now..
I'll let you know how they do. I'm going tomorrow with me new tyres lashed to the pillion seat with string :)
I'll be sure to put me name in the nw3 thread once I'm sure I have a whole bike ..
