gear lever bush?

Chris gave the lever a bit of a once over other day, but the bush thing inside the lever had disintgrated...you know the thing that stops it wobbling about so much. Its like a cylinder thing that slots inside. Its been packed with greasee for now.

Does anyone know where to get oe from??
Because my local dealer says they don't come as a seperate part, which I think is a little odd.
Apparently its made of brass

You could try going to a bearing supplier and see if they've got a needle roller bearing that would fit

You can't. It's supplied as part of the lever, and isn't replaceable as it isn't removable.

He's right, (see above).

The original one is yes, the replacements I've made are strips of hard plastic, works at least as well as the original.

Nice idea, the brief search I did suggested not enough room sadly.

Anyway - why would it need to be replaceable? No-one on here owns a gear lever long enough for the bush to wear out...

:p

Bit of nylon or brass tubing from a model shop or engineers supplier might do the job?

I thought the bush was some sort of lacquered paper. Nice idea would be to bore it and fit a phosphor bronze bush, and possible a grease nipple to the underside.

Re: gear lever bush?

Intention was to remove the gear lever from the footpeg to clean and grease it, the action was VERY stiff, getting close to the point where it wouldn't return and changing gear would be impossible.

Removed the 8mm bolt from the back of the peg ok, but then the lever wouldn't come off the peg, so held the lever and hit the back of the peg with a hammer to get the lever off.

A chunk of the bushing came out with it, the inside of the lever was badly corroded.

Put it back together without the little chunk and a load of grease, and the shift mechanism works fine.
