Car Tax April 2009 onwards
Despite hearing about it in the budget and news, I havn't really looked at the new VED bands until now - and they are pretty shocking!
On all cars made since 2001, the following will apply: And then see how much it will cost you from April 2009... Band M - (255+ CO2 g/km) - £440 road tax Band L - (225-255)- £415 road tax Band K - (200-225) - £300 road tax Band J - (181-200) - £260 road tax Band I - (171-180) - £205 road tax Band H - (161-170) - £175 road tax Band G - (151-160) - £150 road tax Band F - (141-150) - £120 road tax Band E - (131-140) - £110 road tax Band D - (120-130) - £90 road tax Band C - (120-110) - £30 road tax Band B - (110-100) - £20 road tax Band A - (-100) - no road tax My new car will go down a fiver, but if I had hung on to my old car it was going up by 100 quid! Might be worth taking a look where your car falls. |

Oooh.
Means the VW Polo Bluemotion has zero car tax, 75mpg combined cycle and insurance group 5. Not that I own one :D To be honest, so long as it remains fiscally neutral (ie. the total revenue gained doesn't make it a tax rise - it's more carrot than stick, or at least equal measures), then I'm pretty much for more exaggerated efficiency/tax arrangements. If not for CO2 carbon monkeying (as has been amply explained in recent threads, evidence, if not sketchy is not exactly 100% either) but given that low CO2 also tends to equate to more efficient use of resources. |

Re: Car Tax April 2009 onwards
Hmm, interesting. Something's seriously screwed up if that's the case. I get between 35 and 42 mpg averaged over a tank (and that's worked out manually, not what the computer says) out of a 2.5 V6 audi A4 diesel made in '99. My main drive is about 5 miles of urban + 40 miles of national speed limit twice a day. And I'm definitely "average" in the car, ie. not particularly fussed about ragging it everywhere but also not trying to be super economical.
If a car nearly 10 years newer, half the size, and half the horsepower is only just breaking that, are they sure they've not just wedged a brick onto the gas pedal? |

its because ,.... Cars MPG's are tested in Lab conditions over a 3 or 4 mile rolling road test with a maximum speed of 56 miles an hour... and for paying for the 500? difference in 41000 miles... what aload o ****e... Most cars will achieve good mpg on these runs.... I am not in the least bit suprissed that it only did 47 mpg... |
Re: Car Tax April 2009 onwards
what with that and the price of diesel now, almost 10p a L differance (hmm do you think the government has clocked onto the fact diesels are more popular now!!) I think its going to be cheaper for me to get a little 1.2 petrol concidering the miles i do!!
Unless you do serious miles nowadays and the price diff in fuel i think diesel is becomming a little bit less economical . I remember when it was cheaper than unleaded. |
Re: Car Tax April 2009 onwards
just worked mine out 130g/kg (corsa 1.3 cdti) which worked out at 120 quid a year
http://www.vcacarfueldata.org.uk/ved/ although its only 90 quid acording to tigersaws post? so i will save 30quid a year, |
Re: Car Tax April 2009 onwards
The calculator gives current VED rate for your car. NEXT YEAR they are going up by a load. Mine will go up from 210GBP to 300GBP and I'm not happy about that. It's also knocked a few hundred (maybe 1000s) off the value of my car and I'm even less happy about that!
