Police 'terror' swoop on BBC man

Quote:

A BBC radio reporter was held to the ground and searched by police under the Terrorism Act after his transmitter equipment was mistaken for a bomb.

Six officers forced BBC Radio Stoke's Max Khan to his knees and held him face down in the city on Monday.

Police were told an "Arabic-looking man was acting suspiciously" outside a shopping centre, Mr Khan said.

Now, judging by his surname and description he was a bit brown so unfortunately every idiot is going to think he's a terrorist, but it's only when you see what he was wearing that you have to wonder:

yes, if i were going to transport explosives in public i'd use a blue rucksack with aerials and wires hanging from it. in fact, i might as well carry a sign saying "I have a bomb" - that might be obvious enough

ever wonder if we're getting a bit worked up over something that isn't the threat it's hyped to be?

To be fair, although yes I kind of agree with what your saying here.

Nobody thought there was even the slightest bit of a threat until 4 people blew themselves up on the underground on the 7/7

Sad fact is you cant predict when these things are going to happen and you therefore have to be on your guard. Last time I heard the country was still on a threat level which indicated an attack could be immenant.

What you have to bare in mind though, is since the attack many times that number of people have been killed falling out of bed. I'm not joking.

The clue to the aim of the game with a 'terrorist attack' is in the name. An attack which creates terror. The best thing westerners could do is in a unified voice declaire, "bring it on you suicidal lunatics, you don't frighten me because I'm far more likely to be killed by a bus than you". Instead we're giving in, and allowing the authorities do the terrorising instead.

Hence why terrorist attacks weren't reported at all for years until the Governments launched 'operation fear factor'.
