Charging - AGAIN
I'm 99% certain I have a charging problem that only manifests it'self when everything is hot.
How do I work out if it is the generator or the regulator given that the thing is cooling down all the thime I'm trying to get it apart/check it I guess this gets to, is there any reason why I shouldn't ride the bike with the RHS rear body work off? Cheers |

On a more serious note, it's far more likely to be the regulator than the alternator. |
Re: Charging - AGAIN
Afternoon all.
Do a continuity check between the three yellow wires coming from the alternator & earth when it stops charging. You should be able to do this before it cools down. It's possible that the stator is shorting to earth when hot, hence the loss of charge. But as the slippery one says, it's more likely to be the regulator/rectifier that's at fault. The only surefire way to check this is by substitution. Cheers. |
Re: Charging - AGAIN
Also it could only be breaking down under load, so even when hot it could appear good, but with all the electrics running the problem could show.

Cheers
Having been here before and fitted a new regulator 18 months ago I was leaning towards the regulator + they have a bit of a reputation on here for being a bit limp wristed ;) It might very well get a Hon*da one this time as recomended by SS a while ago |
