Which tyres! (MTB)
I need some road tyres for my Mountain bike. Shes an old beastie but hardly used so in good nick and was pretty expensive when i bought her.
I currently have 26x2.1 offroad tyres on it. Can these be replaced with road type tyres without changing the wheels? Advice please, as i couldnt seem to find any in Evans at lunchtime. I also need some new brake blocks as mine squeak like hell! |

Re: Which tyres! (MTB)
The last tyres I had on my MTB were Tioga City Slickers. 26x1.25.
A very nice fast tyre indeed. Not sure if they are still available but whatever you go for get the skinniest, smoothest you can find. |
Re: Which tyres! (MTB)
If you are only replacing the blocks because they squeek and there is plenty of block left why don't you adjust the toe in.
Use a bit of tape to stick a small washer or similar to the rear uf the braking surface. Adjust the block as normal. Take off tape and washer. Brakes should now meet the rim at a better angle and shouldn't squeek anymore. |
Re: Which tyres! (MTB)
VIney are you ever ever likely to ride your MTB off road, if your using it to cycle on the road and nothing else then get something like this
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ProductDetai...n%20MTB%20Tyre These seem to have a good rep on the pusbike forums. As for blocks, if they squeak just ignore it, My winter bike the brakes squeak like a mouse in mortal danger... I dont know what brakes your MTB has on it, but have a look here and find yourself something, the Koolstop ones also have a good reputation and are supposed to give good wet weather performance to. http://www.wiggle.co.uk/CategoryProd...Pads&cat=cycle HTH |

Re: Which tyres! (MTB)
also if your pads are squeling check the alinement as thatsd what it will most likely be, the rear of the pad touching the rim first.

Re: Which tyres! (MTB)
Make sure you get kevlar lined (I used Continental Gator Skins). They are fantastic - I ride in London during the week and they haven't let me down (my pre-kevlar tyres lasted 8 days before shredding). They ain't bullet proof, but really good. - Try Ribble Cycles, they are usually good value
