Reg/rec pattern part

I've just ordered one of these from SV Spares- does anyone have any experience of these?

Sadly, I really couldn't afford the Suzuki part- at £144, with a new chain & sprockets and road tax on the way, it's out of budget. (cos I'm expecting a few "don't say I told you so's"... :D

Though apparently Suzuki have improved the design of the OEM part.

Should have asked first, a CBR one would have been far cheaper

SVSpares are a breakers.

So I believe you will be getting a 2nd hand part rather than a new pattern part.

Why are the Honda ones so much better? When you read magazines reviewing old Hondas as potential secondhand bikes they always say check Rec/regs as they are a known problem.

My bike spares guy sells more pattern ones for Honda than suzys.

Plus you have to modify the Honda one I believe. not a job everyone is up to.

Thedonal, I hope you made sure it was the right model for your bike as there are two types for the curvy.

CBR ones do not need any modification to fit the SV...

Cheers Pete- apparently Spares Direct sell a fair few pattern ones too.

I have thought about modding a Honda as I could do it, but I would like to just get one in asap, to be honest, without any mucking about- the bike has given me enough grief of late...

I did quote as an SV650S-X, so hopefully he's paid attention- but I've only had good experiences from this co.

edit- Plowsie- does that mean any CBR, or just a particular year/engine size? I will consider that for a future purchase- cos let's face it- the unit is gonna go again.

Electrix sell them. I got one for an ER5 and it has a bigger heat sink than original. Get good reports on ER forum and a British company. Reasonably priced as well.

TheDonal they are for a CBR600F andyb or whatever his name is has/had one on his. Think he sold it on for a kwak.

Cheers Plowsie.

My Bro commented that Honda reg/recs have a poor reputation too- and people on those forums recommend Yamaha units.

And probably, Yamaha owners recommend Kwak units.

And Kwak owners suggest Suzuki?!!

Let's not mention Italian though...! :D

I suppose, overall, this part is one of the least reliable of the electrics- and looking at where they're placed- ie rear subframe with no ventilation in most cases, overheating is a real issue.
